My Bug-Collection for 1.2/1.3 and Suggestions

All Bugs found so far - and a few Suggestions

Hi! I bought GalCiv2 yesterday and it is a very good game so far.
But I found some Issues and hope you can add them to your "ToDo" list and fix them later.

Bugreport for Version 1.2:
[User Interface: Text and Messages]
- Leader Name seems to be hardcoded in (some) first contact messages or other diplimatic messages. It did not use my entered Leadername.
- Some "Word on the Street" messages seem to have hardcoded Leader/Empirenames.
(I will test it further and give you more exact examples if I can reproduce it)

[User Interface: Displays and Icons]
- Shiprange does not display properly if multiple ships are in one sector. It shows the longest range always even if you select a ship with very short range. (would be better to show the selected ships range)
- When I open the "Build Ship" window in Sector view and select a ship and then "CANCEL" it still gets in the production list. Or if I select another ship when one is in production and hit "Cancel" the last selected ship will be built! (Cancel should just close the window and leave the rest as it is?)
- Planet List shows production of all planets, even if they belong to other empires. Dont know if it is a bug but how can you see what all aliens build on their planets?
- All unowned planets have a "Defended" (Shield) Icon? (Planet List)
- The Icon for "Defense" in Ship Builder is always brighter as the other category Icons

[Objects and Ships]
- Starbases are incorecctly displayed after upgrading. You can always see the first version of it rotating in the other direction as the upgraded version. So you have 2 stations in one inside each other. Looks strange.
- Some of my custom ships have engine emissions on really strange locations above or beyond my ship/engines (circles with emission floating around)

[Races and Empires]
- Yor empire has a 100% Loyality bonus but if you edit the race and add loyality again you can only add 10% (displaybug?)

[User Interface]
- If player race color is the same as NPC color it would be good to change it (and/or add an option to change the player/npc color during the game)

[User Interface: Technology]
- Tech: Xeno Farm Construction has a Gun Icon

[Objects and Ships]
- Some engines are not properly placed in the middle of an hardpoint (not centered)
- When you edit a design some parts have a different size. Example: The existend Armor had a size of 6 but when I add the same or replace the old one it has a size of 7.
- If you save a ship desig with the same name as an existend one the game crashes!

Suggestion:
- Would be nice to be able to use longer names for Ship designs or planets/starbases or Empire Name (line is long but you cant enter much text)
- Ship Designer: Can you add the ability to move parts after placing them on a hardpoint (I don't mean place on another point, just move it around at the existing point) or change the height to make things float or put parts inside the ship. (or free placement?)

and some more.   

[Objects and Ships]
- If a trade transport starts (mini freighter) and enters a sektor where my ships are in I cant attack it. I have to move my ship one sector and then back to attack it. (maybe add an Attack-Button?)
- Disappearing Trade Ships: Cancelled traderoutes (cancelled by NPC) disappear sometimes (too risky region for example) but where is the freighter? Is it a bug that it disappears?

[User Interface: Text and Messages]
- Planet Surface: Military (Number at upper left) has an empty Tooltip (" ")
- Critical Hit Tooltip in Battle view (red number) has "ShipX destroyed ShipY" as tooltip even if it is the first hit and ShipY survived.
- Planetary Event (select good/neutral/evil action) says I get a tech and lose 200m people (evil action, found precursor drones on a moon). But where is this tech and which one was it? (did not get one?)

Too late, we moved on from 1.2 ages ago and r now on 1.3b2a.  

Not bad work in just 2 days!

Why not download 1.3b2a from stardock central and help the developers bugfix. U seem to have a knack for it?

I have been playing 1.3b2a for a week now and it seems very stable with no major problems.

But maybe some of them are still in v1.3 and can be fixed?   
I will try the beta soon. I like testing and reporting bugs.   
That's why I try to be in as many betas as possible.

Here are some other issues I have found in version 1.2:

[Objects and Ships]
- Transports cant launch from orbit without troops? (you have to add at least 1 to move it to another planet)
- If a Tradeship (freighter) launches from orbit and stands on a traderout its shown as mini-freighter and after one turn all other mini-freighters are back at normal size!
- If I buy a ship and a NPC takes the planet in the next turn (when I should get my ship) the ship belonged to the NPC and the Icon looked a bit strange (ship stretched)
- Ship designs sometimes have "Ghost Components". That means items you dont have researched yet which dont use space or have an effect but are listed on top as components.

[Galaxy Map]
- Sometimes I dont see Fog of war after losing a planet through invasion (bug or feature?)

[User Interface: Text and Messages]
- Diplomacy Screen says "+ Too busy to risk war with us" - but we are already at war (so why is it in the list as +?)
- Trade: rightclick Info does not work for Trade Goods (and you cant see what tradegoods you got already from other races/no bonuses granted after getting it?) (example: Xinathium Hull Plating)
- Ship destinations of NPC ships are always "Unknown" even if you can see the complete route and the destination planet/sector
- "Solar Slammers" Event Text is cut off at the end (some other events have scrollbars and are showing properly)

[Races and Empires]
- A new custom race shows Boni (race bonuses for morale, sensors, trade routes and so on...) even if nothing is selected (display bug?)

[Suggestions]
- Waypoints (fly to several rally points) would be nice. Just select waypoint 1, point 2 and 3... and then the ships fly to point 1, 2, 3... (maybe with patrol command to fly back and forth or from last to first point)
- Ships launching from orbit are always in the same sector at the lower right. Maybe you could add an option to select the sector?

[Galaxy Map]
- The Target Marker stays on the map sometimes after moving a ship to a new location or constructing a starbase before the constructor arrived at his final destination

[Objects and Ships]
- Dread Lords Ships have strange names (Mission "Siege" of Campaign for example): "Ship [4,4].[66.69]
- Saving a Ship with the same name as an old deleted design does save it as the old ship and the new design is lost! I could manage to restore it with renaming it again to a temporary name (cant overwrite old existent name because game crashes then) and then saving as a completely new, unused name.
(I will try to reproduce it to give you more details but I hope you can understand what I mean.)

[User Interface: Text and Messages]
- The 2nd line in the orbit (enemy planet) does not show tooltips for the ships there. (Shipname/Class)

[Suggestions]
- Add Info about Leases somewhere (maybe tooltip at the management screen) (how many and weeks left)
- Can you add the "Nothing" entry to spaceports (build ship screens) for the custom view please? I make almost all of my ships myself select "Custom" as view but if I want to cancel building I have to go to the "Core" category first.
- Can you add a list of obsolete Designs to delete them (you cant use the name of obsolte designs for new designs)

- Campaign Mission "Siege": Victory text has a small typo. It says "quckly" but should be "quickly"?

[Objects and Ships]
- Freighter (core design) does not have a visible trade component, its just the empty hull (Campaign)
- Save as "New Design" (as name) discarded my new design and everything was lost. And got no propt to overwrite another one with same name. (had a obsolote design called "New Design" as far as I can remember)
- Some Hardpoints are floating (zoomed parts)

Here is another one.

[Objects and Ships]
- As mentioned earlier, if I build a ship and then the planet gets conquered by the AI (an NPC) the ship belongs to him but sometimes has no Icon or 3D model in fight at all!
- After loading a savegame all ships had my military starbase as target! Only one colony ship had the "targetline" pointing at the right location but the target description in the infoview in the bottom middle said "Starbase", too.
- Sometimes you have to click on ships several times when you have multiple ships in a sector to select another ship (to create a fleet)
- Selfmade Freighters for Trade (or other ships) need 2 or more BC for Maintenance but Core desings dont need Maintenance - Bug or feature? (I create almost every ship to have some cool designs but even if I just use hull and the trade modul it has 2 BC Maintenance, if I add a laser or some engines its even more!)

[User Interface: Text and Messages]
- The Trade Info window that pops up when you establish a new traderoute says you bet x BC per month but the Domestic Policy screen says "per week"
- The Show Traderoutes Button does not work sometimes and you have to click multiple times to switch the view
- The Domestic Policy Screen displays different values for trade income than the route or infowindow you get when you establish a route. But I have no other incoming routes. (maybe you can add info in tooltip where the money comes from)

[Suggestions]
- Used logistic points are not visible until you have several ships in a sector, maybe you could add the info in the detail view at least?

- Basic Support has a size of 3 but I can add it to my ship which has only 2 spaces left (18/20)!

[Objects and Ships]
- If you design a ship it shows maintenance costs (during design phase) but after finishing it some ships (freighters, transports) dont have maintenance anymore (list of designed ships)
- I created a super-fast Freighter for trading with 8 speed but when it is on the traderoute it's back at 1 speed. Is this intended or a bug?
- I got the "First capital Ship" movie only after building a medium ship but it was not the first, I have upgraded other ships before building this one. (Upgrading is not recognized)
- Core Troop Transport (at least the one of the last design you can select before the game starts - cant remember name right now) has 5 Troop modules in design view but after building the ship only 2 are usable (1000 troops). If I open it in the design view (Upgrade-Button) and then remove the 5 Troop modules or create a new ship I can only add 3 because their size is 20 and the ship has only space for 80 (rest is used by engine and life support)
- Not every engine (sometimes main engine from hull) has an effect in battle view or sometimes it's not at the right position floating around the ship (maybe you could add an option to turn engine effect off for every engine in ship designer (sometimes the parts are not used as engine ))


[User Interface]
- If you select to focus production on a planet the planet icon in the upper left changes (superfast rotation) for a second (same happens in other menus where planet icon is visible)
- If you dont build a social project points get allocated to military production, but not vice versa (bug or feature?)

[Suggestions]
- You can't see your population growth rate of planets or what effects are in/decreasing it.
- You can't see how many troops you have in a fleet. If you select a transport alone it is displayed in the upper right part of the infoview on the bottom. Would be nice to have this for fleets too.
- Would be nice to be able to sort the shiplist from starport. Right now its just by name (abc). By name/class/size/weapons/defense... would be nice. (I have MANY ship designs in my list)
- Maybe you could add a new popup window asking for the name of a newly built ship or created fleet? (could be turned on in options maybe)
- The manual has no shortcut in the startmenu, but the demo got one.

[Ship Designer]

- If you have used many parts to design a ship you have a scrollbar on top to scroll through all components and parts. If you have scrolled and then delete an object the bar is moved back to the left side and you have to scroll again to find the proper pieces.

It would be nice if you could change this and not scroll back to the left side after moving/deleting a part of the ship design.

Another suggestion:
Would be nice if you could attack planets with ships from space (in Orbit)! I don't like to conquer every planet with troops. It would be faster and easier to attack from orbit. You can reduce enemy troops this way (but destroy buildings) or you can bomb everything away and continue to the next planet. (maybe even destroy planets like in MoO )

Brad personally is against bombardment, so it won't be happening.

oh man... I like the idea too.. post it in modding..

what about 3d ground units, and ships coming and throwing bombs on the enemy.. and I think every race should have it's own weapons like troops and tanks...

Yeah, why is it that a VERY ADVANCED INVADER, just uses GROUND troops and not planes???????(fighters to kill enemies' bombers, and of course bombers to bomb the ground troops)

Even if Ground bombing isn't there as an Invasion Tactic, the planes could be shown bombing the enemy when invading the planets in 3D, just like the troops,tanks and artyllery alrdy are...

maybe they did use it, but without mercy

Its not even the drengin cold blooded- its cold-circuited- even worse than the yor   So they destroyed all the enemie's planets??

Hi, here are some other things I have found in 1.3A
NOTE: I have no Mods enabled - I play without any mods.

- United Planets screen shows no votes for all races in the turn after a vote. You have to finish the turn to get the chart and numbers back (shows "0")

- I got the "Defender" Ship with 1 Beam Weapon but never researched beam weapons and my custom ships can't have beam weapons. Is this a feature? (I researched mass accelerators)

- Drengin Trade in a Metaverse game was strange yesterday. I wanted to trade some techs and offered two. I wanted Impulse Drive from him but he was not pleased with my offer. Then I have added Impulse Drive II as additional Tech and what do you think he said? He agreed!! I dont know why trading Impulse Drive I AND II is ok but just giving me Drive I is bad.

- some Starbases have still the display-issue sometimes where you can see a second copy of it inside it. Looks weird but with 1.3A the rotation was in the same direction (was in the other direction before 1.3)

Suggestion:
- Would be nice to be able to watch the GNN reports later not only once at the beginning of the turn

- In the middle of the Trade Screen you can view several Information about how the other Race likes you, Trade Report... and now there is a List of Techs you have. But now you have to scroll one line to see all listbox entires. Would be nice to add a line to remove the scrollbar.

This doesn't sound like a problem. You accumulate "votes" in between UP sessions based on your influence, then expend them all at the next session. So you will naturally have no votes left immediately after voting. These votes are also the "influence" that you can trade in diplomacy.

IIRC Defenders use Particle Beams, which only require the root weapons tech that all three trees descend from.

Thanks for the info.
I found a few other things yesterday but this time I forgot to write it down... so most of it is "gone" now.
But I will add them later when I can remember what it was.


Here one thing I still remember:
- The Terrans call me "Yor Collective" in the Trade Screen but thats not the name of my empire. Seems to be hardcoded and not the var for the empire name.
