Galactic Privateer

AI has no clue

Running the last Beta, I've found a way to win that feels like I'm cheating. If I acheive GALACTIC PRIVATEERS, my merchant ships can't be shot out of space. Okay, that's cool; that's what I paid for, right?

But when I'm at war with an AI player, they don't seem to know that. They fleets waste all their time each turn snuggling up next to my merchant ships in their empire, never killing them, and never coming after me. It's like they don't know they can't kill my merchant ships and just waste their time never figuring that out...

honestly: I'd take the Gal. Privateer out of the game- the idea is nice, but in practice its not really working the way intended...

What happens when the freighters begin to move back into your home systems? Do the enemy ships attack other targets then?

This AI issue has been reported to Brad, but I don't know if he's gotten to look at it for the next build of 1.3 yet.

Yes. Once they get back into my territory they might peel off for another target. That's why I always design slow freighters now; so they stay away from home and "suck up" enemy fleets and keep them far away from me. I've noticed that the speed of the freighter doesn't seem to have a direct impact on the value of its trade route income, which is a shame. That would be a nice incentive for upgrading freighters on existing trade routes...
