What does allowing the AI to use cpu intensive algorithms do?

Mainly it lets them redesign their ships much more often (by default they only design new ships once per 52 turns). This means the AI should field new techs much faster and adapt to your own designs much more rapidly, making it a tougher opponent when at war.

(Apparently allow the AI to walk rather than crawl.)

Is there any plan to rework this ?? (default to say 20 turns, and option up to 5)

Every 52 turns is retardedly slow. (what is that once an hour !!) What about when I attack them ? (I would think they'd consider how to fight me right then)

How much processing could it take ? Also shouldn't this affect your difficulty level ? (so put it on that page, and feed it into difficulty level)

-.-' Gallagher you are taking it to the extreme. It doesn't really change the diffuculty level, it's just gives the AI more time to think on Ship Designs and other things, so it's still balanced. And if you think 52 turns is retardly slow, turn it on. (PLEASE note that he said WITHOUT it on is 52 turns, WITH it on, it's less)

Is the game harder or not with it on ? I play with on personally, and I don't think the AI does enough redesign. (but probably more of a problem with what they're researching)

WhatI'm saying is if it is 52 turns, that's way way way tooo slow and that it should affect your difficultly level.

For lower difficulty settings at least, it's lack of innovating new technologies that limits AI designing. At least they're getting the newer weapons systems in production more quickly now.

Kyro, do you know how often if does redesigns with the option turned on?

Try it and see for yourself.

I do not. You'd have to ask one of the devs (probably Brad) if you wanted to know specifically.

I have it on, and notice some changes... but it's slow to react.

Ie, AI X has all missles all the time. Offense + Defense.

I choose to become a rock thrower.

After I crush their invasion force with crappy rock throwers, their defense shift to protect.

I switch to missles. (more damage anyways).

kill next invasion force.

they switch back to missles.

this happens once/twice, then the AI gets bored and never changes from Missle defense (but punches it up alot)

I still crush the AI with rocks. and the occasional beams.

I don't have that problem. My enemies nearly always use at least 10 defense in each area on ships larger than small, and this is before the bonuses they usually have. Like I said, that's also the minimum. I'm seeing enemy fleets with defenses around 5**/2**/9** in my current game (I'm using lasers).

Completely agree Madjinn. I think it would be hard for anyone to deal with a 2 dimensional opponent. (rocks and beams)

That's why I can't understand why the AI doesn't give it a try. The AI would be able to rip me up, because I almost always max out a def tech against them, build ships with 30+ defense and just enough of a given weapon. (doesn't generally matter since the AI doesn't use much defense)

If for once the AI would switch weapons, quickly, it would be able to render my ships obsolete. But generally by the time it even makes the decision to defend against me, it's pretty much over. I don't think I've ever allowed it enough time to switch weapons.
