ship's range

First of all my best congratulations for the beautiful game!
And congratulation to the company for his policy: i've never seen before a software house with a so high care for his customer. I hope that others software house take you as example.

Now the question: how does the ship's range works?
I believe that it's the maximum distance of a ship from it's own homeworld, but:

- often, the range has a value under 1 pk (parsec, right?), so, in theory, the ship sould not be able to move!
- on the shipyard the measure's unity is different form the map: the first use parsec, the second sectors, but the numeric value is the same (e.g. 0.9 pk, and 0.9 sec). I've the latest build of the game: 1.30 beta2
- Suppose that 0.9 is sector (so: 0.9*15 parsec): on the first map of the campaign the scout ship must stop before entering into other sectors, but, indeed, i'm able to travel on the whole (tiny) map.

It's clear that i've not understand well this aspect of the game, i've tried to read the manual, but i'm confused.

Anybody could explain me?

Thanks!

It's a little murky to me but you need more life supports
to go further from your nearest planet. A line demarcates
roughly how far you can go with a ship from your nearest
planet. To go farther you need a planet nearer or a ship
with more life support.

Sometimes I have to downgrade the speed of my survey ship to
get enough room to add more life support. Usually I don't colonize
planets under 10 but sometimes I will do it to give my ships more
range.

The range is from ANY planet you own, or starbase. Often as your empire expands you can go anywhere on the map for that reason.

The range figures are confusing, as you figured out they're always in sectors, not parsecs.

Adding life support increases range.

Make sure you toggle "show range for ships" on in the mini-map, then when you select a ship you can see its range.

On the main map range limits show up as a thin grey line.

If a target is out of range, a simple trick is to plop down a starbase (any kind will do) as far out as your constructer can go, now your ship's range will be alot further as it's measured from your new SB.

Thank you. So 0.9 means 0.9 sector and i could go everywhere also with a ridicolous empire probably is due to an alliance with another race.

I don't think allies' planets count for range. But I'm not sure.

try the first mission of the campaign: at the beginning you've two ships: a colony and a scout. With the second you can go everywhere on the map.
