Ship Component Question

Hey folks

Do you unlock more ship components as your play more games? I know you can unlock more base hulls but i wondered whether there were extra components too? I have seen some really cool ship designs out there, but cant see some of the more obvious compoenents in my games.

Thx in advance

The "jewelry" is always available. Only the functional components get unlocked as you perfect the prerequisite techs.

A lot of those really cool ship designs are probably using "jewelry" from the Collector's Edition of the game. I couldn't find many of those non-functioning components in the standard edition I have.

The collector's edition pieces are supposed to be included with the 1.2 patch even if you don't have the collector's edition. If they don't appear in your game even with 1.2, I believe the CE downloads page has been opened up to everyone, and you can find the special features unlocker itself there.

You can unlock base hulls???!!!

Yes - when I started on a race set of hulls, I only had one small, one tiny etc. But as the game progressed and then into following games with the same ship sets the extra hulls were still there.

I think you mean that when you reaserch a new technology, you get make better ships that can be available on the next game using the same race and hulls, they will appear when the require technologies you used to make it is reaserched again. For example you reaserch Medium Scale Building and you make a frigate with some "advanced" weapon like e.g.: Laser V . On the next game you will have the ship you made when you reaserch Mdeium hulls and Laser V. hope this helps.

I didn't know the collectors edition jewellery became available with 1.2, why did I pay extra for it in the first place then. grumble, grumble.

Well, you still have the fancy DVD-Box, the printed Tech-Tree, the Galciv2 Theme ... not that I actually need any of those

the metallic box is quite cool actually. This is from the european paradox release, I'm not sure which other regions got this style.

The Collector's Edition is most generally the same price as the regular one, just in limited quantities/locations. Buying direct from Stardock costs a bit more, but that's because we charge MSRP and retailers sell it at a discount (they would not like it if we sold it below MSRP), and SD is not the only way to get the CE.
