Where are the Minor Races?

M. Races missing in my game

Since I bought the game I never had Minor Races in a game I played, I tried both
with 'Minor Races Disabled' on and off. Is this a known thing??

I know I haven't been kind to them before, but that's not a reason to never show up in the galaxy anymore..

Ps. They do show up however sometimes as a random new faction during the game.

Are you playing on small/tiny maps? try "Gigantic" - I promise you'll find 3 or 4.

I play on large maps with planet/star options on occasional with five opponents.
I think I used to play with this configuration and with six opponents and
still have three or four Minor Races.

On a large map (v1.2) with nine opponents they seem to be very hit or miss. I probably only see them about a third of the time. It does still work though, just with less frequency than the earlier versions.

Weird... maybe the game hasn't "recognised" your choice to re-enable minor races. Have you tried re-enabling the default config?

I've noticed that too. After the patch they just stopped showing up. Before, it nearly used to be one minor race for every major. Now... Does anybody know is there a way to adjust the probability chance of getting minor races in the game? i.e. editing XML files.

Where is this setting please? I've looked all over and cannot find it. I even *gasp* read the manual.

U do not get minor races on tiny or small maps.

The more major races u have in a game, the less minor ones.

Sometimes on gigantic you will get none. Usually you will though.

Ditto! I have been playing a GIAGANTIC game for a week now and NO MINOR RACES.... not even any cute earth girls!!

I am playing the 1.3 B Beta.... Come out, come out, whereever you are!!

You know it seems like for every update, there is something that makes the game worse, even with all the great things the update has ( I wonder if they'll mutilate the game even worse in the expansion).

It's where you start a new game, right beside the victory conditions.

Another reply said that maybe the game didn't recognize my resetting of the button (the button doesn't work properly), that was my fear as well. That maybe when you once disable it, you can't turn it back on. However, yesterday I encountered 1 Minor Race from the start, so it does appear to work.
But probably like other people said, the Minor races have become extremely rare.

I may try to put more (habitable) planets in and see if that makes a difference.

Cheer up, I am sure all will be well in 1.3 (final version).

Yes that will help considerably.

Minor races

Tiny/Small - 0
Medium - 0-1
Gigantic - 0-4 or more?

Do not really play other map sizes.

I play on huge maps, and I see them every time. They are often a bit of a anoyance. Why the hell are they building influence starbases at my homeworld?

I play on Large maps, with six opponents, and see them every time. I'm playing my second game on the 1.3a beta, and had two on the first game (one showed up late) and have two from the beginning on my present game. The Akillians next to my homeworld are acting stupider than usual though. They built an entire fleet of freighters and constructors, but never launched any. So they are just sitting there with a full starport. Might be time to replace them with a more intelligent race (me).

And what are your planet and star settings? Higher than occasional?

I usually play with common habitible planets and its still hit or miss getting minor races to show up...and 99% of the time it's the dark yor.

However in lengthy games I have seen minor races show up...sadly they always start off with a planet about to revolt and so not to let the competition wipe them out I end up going in and exterminating them by the 2nd turn after they show up

Oh yeah, much higher. I usually play with common/common.

It must not be available on my version.

Yes, Conquesci, it appears you're running 1.0. The patches bring many fixes and new features, so you should use them if at all possible. The latest release patch, 1.2, is available from the downloads page of this site.

I started a game two days ago (version 1.2) and it's up to 8 minor races, and I'm not finding that altogether unusual. *shrug*

Thanks. I should have noticed that I was running 1.0, since it says so on the Windows tab. Duh. I can't find a serial number anywhere, so I must have a demo copy of the game or something. It came bundled with my computer on a DVD with a bunch of programs. Well, the game seems worth the $40, so I'll buy it tonight. Thanks all.

If you can play on Huge maps, it isn't just the demo. The demo is limited to small maps (or tiny, I forget) and a maximum of three years gameplay.

Who knows. Maybe Stardock is really run by the CIA and they're creating games to get access to our hard drives. Or maybe even something more sinister perhaps,,,,,,?
