Race Discovering Precursor Tech

I'm asking about the event when a race discovers some precursor technology on their planet and they will grow more and more powerful until they conquer the whole galaxy. What exactly does this event give them?

They gain small cumulative bonuses to various empire-wide abilities each turn. If you let them live too long, they can easily accumulate far more bonuses than you can hope to counter.

thx for the reply. i just asked cause it nvr made any noticable difference in my games - it was always a weak race across the galaxy from me.

No, it's random. Twice I've had this happen to the most powerful AI player, and one of those times it was quite a while before I could do anything about him. I got lucky and whacked two of his military resource bases in the opening 2 turns of hostilities.

once it also happened to a race I was about to destroy. In a game a while ago, I was destroying the Terrans (I think it was the terrans that got the event in that game), they were down to a few planets and my invasion fleet was already on its way when they had the event, but a few turns later they were dead. I guess it was one final desperate attempt at survival, but much too late.

Can that event happen to You? or is it just for the A.I.?

let me think... Is it some sort of random event that occurs about finding a ship on the ocean or something?

Does he mean the Ranger and Corvettes?

@ Hopeless Newb and Veers, the OP was talking about that random event where a civilization has discovered some precursor tech which slowly makes them more powerful, there is a similar one where they discover some device called a Tacharik or something (I forget the name) which was used long ago by that demi-god bieng with the Dread lords or something and it has the same kind of effect.

I've never had it happen to me and it really only seems to happen to the weakest or one of the weakest players, although like V1m said, I've seen it happen to a powerful race or one that was already growing powerful. However I've never been the weakest civ for very long, actually I usually come out at the top from the start, so I dunno. Actually, its possibly an AI only event because the player could become too powerful with this event, but I don't know how to confirm that.

@Veers: Maybe Master U meant the Corvettes since a Corvette is a naval ship class. However the Precursor ranger and corvette events have different pictures from the precursor tech random event. However the precursor ship event does happen to you.

In the game files there is a video file that shows a starship skimming an ocean surface, presumably the video to a random event. like other events, the text starts with "meanwhile..."

DID YOU KNOW THAT: i knew what we was talking about, i was trying to figure out what Master you was talking about in my second scentence, sorry if i wasn't being specific enough, and thanks anyway.

wow, you posted that right before me. well thanks for letting us know. i've never seen that ship over the ocean or whatever it was, but thank you for telling us, NOW WE KNOW!!!

The only event I can think of that starts like that is when a Minor Race steals techs and wants to trade. However, I do not think that video was on an ocean.

I don't remember a video which shows a ship going over an ocean either. And that minor race stealing tech event just shows a small ship approaching a planet.

A bit off topic but....

I never get events! I hear so much about these cool events but I never get them. Way back before the patches when I was Universalists I got the Lucky Ranger event numerous times, but in over 10 full sandbox games I haven't gotten anything else. (No, that's not true, once I got the one where some civ's leader got assassinated and they blamed another civ - not mine - or something like that.)

Is there a way to increase event frequency? That would add some character and fun to my games.

I know what you mean I used to rarely get lucky rangers, but other civs did witch made their navy a bit more fearsome, but now I never, EVER get random events, damn it I want a better chance to get random events! They just add so much life to the game, and "never the same game twice" greatness.

I especially would like to get the ones I've read about where a good race will turn evil (Altarians or Torians I think). That way my ultimate good custom race can have a bit more of a challenge, because as it is now both those races are the #2&3 after me and they just want to be my friends and it goes against my race's beliefs to just declare war on good people.

I think for Dark Avatar or future patches there should be tons more random events added and then let "random events" be a slider bar like frequency of stars, etc. That would go far towards creating the "never the same game twice" feeling mentioned above, especially since you're stuck with the same nine races every game.

That is a cool video with the ship over the water.
