Graphical tEchnical problem

Converting to a new computer as well as a new GAlciv2, I found problems using an Nvidia 7900 GT Extreme and no solution. The graphic card is very new and fully updated driver wise and produces something that looks like uncontrolled starbursts across the screen. I remember the same problem from another game and another graphics card, so maybe im not the only one out there. I also found a problem with all the animations. Seems my computer is beyond extremely fast, either that or I have invented a spinning wheel that makes the animations spin wildly with only a temporary stop now and then as the animation starts a new circle.

That sounds like a rather common problem with the AMD X2 processors.
Is that what you have, by chance?

Yes, things animating way too fast is a common timing issue with X2 processors. You should be able to fix that with a driver update from AMD or a BIOS update on your motherboard. I'm not sure if X2s allow you to disable the second core or not, or maybe specify for certain programs to only run on one core, but if that is possible that would probably do the trick temporarily as well.

As to the 'starbursts', post screenshots if possible and the contents of the debug.err in the folder you installed GC2 at so we can figure it out.

When the game is running, bring up the task manager, right click on the galciv2.exe process, and select 'Choose Affinity'. That will allow you to set the game to only use one processor.

There's also a utility called imagecfg that determines affinity on a more permanent basis, but I have no first-hand experience with it.
