Problems installing on Dell M70

Don't know if this the place to ask, but I am having problems loading the game on my Dell M70. It loaded ok on my desktop machine but I wanted to be able to take it with me on the road.

When I try to install the game on the M70, the first screen comes up and asks if I want to install. I click yes and then the machine hangs up. Checking the task manager after 2-4 minutes shows that the program is not responding and I have to reboot to get it to stop.

any one else have the problem? Any suggestions to fixing so I can load the machine.

Thanks, Chris

If the installer won't work on your laptop but it has a decent internet connection, the simple (though time-consuming) option would be to get Stardock Central and simply install GC2 via download.

Dell =

There's a reason why they are cheap. They are cheap.

I never had any problems installing the game on my M70. My school issues the laptops and a problem that we encountered that might match this error is that some disk drives wouldn't read some types of disks properly, but it was a rare occurance. Beyond that, I can't help you.

I'd go with the downloading route if that would be easier. If it doesn't install with that, then there is a serious problem with your computer, memory being the main problem we've found. Annoying memory parity errors.

You could also archive your copy of GalCiv2 on your laptop and transfer the archives to your laptop (burn a disc, use a thumbdrive, etc).  Then you would just need to install Stardock central and use it to restore the archives.  You'll need to delete the sig.bin file so that it can re-activate on the laptop, though.

Trying to download from Stardock Central, but it gets to "extracting: STARS.txt" with 1% complete and then doesn't lock up, but it sits there with the icon world whirling around behind the computer monitor, but nothing more is going on.

Any thoughts?

You might try turning off your virus scanner during the operation.

Fixed it by booting in safe mode and installing game. First time I have ever had to do that.
