Suddenly got 1% approval rate!

Just had a fight with the YOR, which btw I think is a seriously overpowered race, they simply kick the SHIT outta any other race in the game , and fast.

Anyway, I took a planet of em, and then we had peace, and suddenly...my approval was 1% and NOTHING I do on the domestic sliders will change that percentage.

It is basically game over.

Any clues?
Is there anywhere I can read to understand whats going on?

So, if you lower your tax rate, the approval rating doesn't change?

Either you are horrible at this game or this a serious bug. I recomend telling Stardock about this.

I've seen this bug reported already, and I've had it twice but not in the same situation. I had one of those morality choices to make and the good choice cost a percentage of happiness. When I selected it, I tanked out to 1% and nothing I did had any effect. After a certain number of turns, I had a revolution, everyone split and I lost all my population

I went to war with a civ and I noticed this happen as well. As soon as I took over their planet in my sector and made peace my ratings went back to normal. I assumed it was some kind of morale attack though I am not aware of any tech that would allow this.

Another consequence of my low approval was that one of my planets revolted and became a seperate minor race (which I quickly brought back into the fold).

I have had the exact same problem once or twice. I did a good option that lowered my approval rating by like, 3%. try as i might, nothing seemed to work to get it back up from one percent, even on old worlds that i'd never had problems on before. thankfully, i still had enough mind left to try to fix it. I loaded an autosave and it didn't occur again. it was a close call though, i almost lost my mind while the game was loading. The only way this won't work is either: A. You do everything exactlyl the same way you did before, unlikely or B. You have turned off the autosave feature, in which case, yah, your doomed.

Yeah, I've had it too. It comes up as a native ability penalty does it not? I can't quite remember.

I've seen similar weirdness with the approval rating. For example, I've seen solid 80% approval ratings drop to 1% with the addition of one additional point of tax (and this is with tax rates already in the eighties, I should add). This had the interesting effect of causing three major factory planets to revolt and the eventual loss of about 50bil people. Interesting times.

I have had this happen to me. I think it may have something to do with your people's morale- I chose an alignment option that reduced my morale quite a bit, and suddenly my popularity was 1%.

Your approval will always drop to 1 if you get your taxes in 81, no matter what.

Thanks for the replies.

I had an event that gave me a morale hit of 3-4 % just before I think.
And then suddenly the game drops everything to 1% morale.

After a bit, everyone splits, and I loose the game.

I figure its a bug now really, cause I*m not that horrible at the game, I play it on 'painful' settings and do quite well

Only shame is that its a very good savegame
I finally beat up the Yor a bit, and felt good about it, but again, Yor is seriously overpowered, its not even funny.

Firstly: Don't ask for Yor nerfs. Been there, done that, it's not MP so Stardock aren't particularily interested in race genericism... err... balance. If you want them weaker, then mod the raceconfig.xml file, and remove their miniturisation bonus (without it, they're nothing special).

Secondly: Bug, I'm sure. Can you get a debug.err file?

Thirdly: 81% ALWAYS drops taxes to 1%, by design.

Doh, maybe I was a bit unclear.

It's NOT the fact that the Yor is scary wary towards me...

Its that the MOP the floor with the other AI's so easily.
I choose the difficulty I play on happily, if I want easier I think I Have the brainpower to choose the easier one.

However, in most my games, when the Yor is in, the game becomes me vs Yor after VERY few turns as the other ones just throw in towel.

I think the problem comes with agressive Ai's gaining too many free techs , and shipbuilding not really impacting economy enough.

Third, taxes where set to 0% and I ran off my saved funds for 10+ rounds before going bankrupt, nothing changed in the approval department.

Going to take this on the bugforum I guess.

Buh? The Yor in my games have never, EVER, in the course of at least a dozen games, survived the wrath of the Arceans or Torians individually, much less multiple wars at once. And they usually lose to some other races, too (though oviously not the Thalans or Terrans). I've even seen them beaten by MINOR races.

I could have sworn awhile back I was able to get my support up to a whopping 9% at 81% taxes, but if memory serves I had eitehr built (or traded for) all the support trade goods, and had three or four fully upgraded moralle starbases.
