Annoying

I have chosen the Thorian logo for my customized race and my race colour is something like purple. Now I am fighting against the Yors who have the same colour as me, so there is no difference between my influence zone and planets with theirs and its a pain to move ships. Anybody had this annoying problem?

yea its hard to choose a color that both can be seen easily when using constructors and won't be confused with other races colors because the set race colors are all over the rainbow. What I usually do when setting a color for a custom race is that I try to set it to something I like and then I do a quick game with all of the races so that I can compare the colors easily (click the empire view button for the minimap) and I try to adjust the color so that it can be distingushed easily from other races.

As far as the race logo goes, theres some already available in the game and if you don't like those, there are plenty available in the library section.

Would be handy if one could change a race's colour mid game. Not just the player's mind, but all races - so if say Torians get eliminated you could use that distinguished green colour if Drengin and Drath or Korax and Iconia happen to be neighbours! Also it doesn't help a beginner that Drengin and Drath are both red, begin with 'Dr' and are both nasty looking! Besmirches the Drath's docile reputation.

On the more recent Total War games they use two colours, one outline and one filler, to help make sense of things on the minimap. The minimap is already pretty cluttered in Galciv, but it might be worth trying if it hasn't been tried already. Or maybe an interface Mod that lets you enlarge the minimap.

I only have a problem with the gray/white races since planets and other items show on the mini-map as white. I don't play the Iconians and Korx mostly because I can't distinquish them. I also don't play the Humans becuase I use their color as Custom Race. I use a somewhat light blue (0,64,255) which makes it easy to distinquish. The only other blue-ish race is the Altarians, but they're cyan so there's a lot of contrast. I don't have a problem with the Drath versus Drengin because the Drath are more of a yellow-ish color and the Drengin are pure red. The Yor are a dark purple and the Thalan are a light purple so those are sometimes easy to confuse, but I can usually figure it out.

I haven't looked at the mini-map for a while now but as I recall the Drath have a orange-ish/brown-ish color. The only color not currently used that would also show up well on a black background is pink. Sure to strike fear in your enemies.

Yes I had this problem with red. I was a playable game and I won, but it was annoying, I would have found it nice to be able to change color mid game.

Pink is a good idea. Maybe I'll try that one if I throw the Terrans in the mix. Thanks for the suggestion.
