From the Gamespot preview of Dark Avatar: "One of the surprises in the game will be to find out which of the existing races is going to be wiped out and will not be in a future sequel (they'll still be in GalCiv II and its expansions, though, as a playable race)."
Unless there's been an update I missed, or I completely misread this, they are referring to only a single race being annihilated. A lot of people are talking about "what two races" will he destroyed, but last I checked it was only one.
If anyone can prove I'm wrong and two races really are being destroyed, please do so with a preview link or news story; something like that.

You sure? There's two new races... but I don't see anything about how many races are getting eliminated. Where, exactly does it say that it'll be two races destroyed? Could you quote it for me?

are you talking about this part?:

GS: What can you tell us about the two new races in the expansion? How will they fit in with the existing races, and do any of them address a balance issue that you detected in the game?

BW: One of the new races is the Korath. The other race is tentatively called the Zrim. The Korath are an offshoot of the Drengin, while the Zrim are entirely new and are real rascals. One of the surprises in the game will be to find out which of the existing races is going to be wiped out and will not be in a future sequel (they'll still be in GalCiv II and its expansions, though, as a playable race).

they didn't say anything in the whole article about only one race bieng eliminated, so you probably misunderstood or misinterpreted something.

I believe Brad (Frogboy) said so somewhere.

My mistake. I just checked through the old journals. In page 2, no less. "Two of the major civilizations in GalCiv II will be wiped out." Guess I should've checked more carefully!
