Stargate

If my registration issues ever get sorted out, im thinking of making a stargate mod.
Ive got some ideas for explaning the stargates not being used, and a few other ideas

Itll take a while to make, as id only be doing it in my free time

I have a little experience modelling, but im not to great skinning, although i have a friend whos almost a god at it... too bad hes not a fan of stargate, but i may be able to convince him

Feel free to contribute anything you wish... I havnt really modelled ships before, so anyone who has, please do, doing everything myself would take me at least a couple of years.

At the moment ill probably be including humans (obviously) goa'uld, asgard, ori, wraith (maybe, thinking of a concievable way to incorporate them) a couple of minor races, like the tolan (i think thats what their called, the guys that died, although them being dead kinda makes me think not to put them in) replicators (again maybe, they did get wiped out, and if i decide to make it something that fits in with the show, they cant be)

I also have a couple of ideas that will seperate it from a simple model replacing mod, for example, in stargate, shields stop everything, so shields will be very important.

I dunno about the sheilds stopping everything. Im pretty sure they have a whole lot of fancy pyrotechnics all the bridge even when their sheilds are still up.

Oh and don't forget, until we get into Season 10, (Starts soon right?) the Ori ships can't be defeated.

the repucaters only got wiped out in our qalaxy and then only the ones near a stargate

The Replicators are gone in both our galaxy and the Asgard one, but there's a different version of them in the Pegasus galaxy.

Havn't heard of any Pegasus replicators... but the way im imagining this mod now, its going to be only the Milky way, at least for now.

If i can get a couple of people willing to do some modelling and texturing, i might soon get started on this, theres no obligation to make more models once youve started, u just need some contributions to take the load off of me. A friend of mine has agreed to do all character models, so its just really ships that i need.

By the way, the registration issues have been sorted, so im ready to start modding.

Shields wont be able to stop everything, just so you know. You can't change game mechanics like that.

in Stargate they do stop everything but they fail. Oh and they dont stop everything In episode 9.15 volume 48 ETHON the Prometheus is destroyed by a weapon which cuts right through their shields.

I'd be happy to create a few maps, if only I could figure out how to upload anything.

And the Pegasus replicators are basically like First-Fifth (the human replicators).

Shields does not stop everything and sometimes fail. Otherwise the crews of Prometheus, Daedalus and Odyssey wouldn't report to their captains "Shields are at 60%", "Shield are at 48%", etc.

By the way - I'm a HUGE fan of Stargate SG1 and Atlantis and would much appreciate, if a mod was made. I cannot contribute with anything (except maybe knowledge of the StarGate universe), because I don't know the first thing about modeling.

And if a mod was made, you should'nt be able to play as the gou'ald as such, rather as the system lords, like Apophis, or Sokar or maybe even Anubis. Their design would ofcourse be identical, but I thing we'll survive that.

And please don't include the Ori - I really don't like that new plot.

Well, I for one would like the inclusion of the Ori, though not as a major race.

Instead, I think they should replace the Dread Lords.

There's a lot of similitaries between the GalCiv and Stargate plotlines and races that make them perfect for modding, and the more similar to factions are, the less work it will be to mod one into the other. Some obvious changes:

Terran Alliance = Tauri (possibly United Earth Government, or something similar?)
Drengin Empire = Remnant Goa'uld
Altarian Republic = Tokra
Torian Confederation = Free Jaffa
Yor Collective = The Replicators
Korx Dominion = Lucien Alliance
Iconian Refuge = Asgard
Dread Lords = Ori
Arnor (or rather, Arnor and Precursor relics) = Ancients

I'm not sure about the Arceans, the Drath, and the Thalans. I'm sure there are equivalents somewhere, lurking in some episobe. What about the alien/human alliance the Cerberus belonged to, or the Kenowlans? Though they might make more sense as minor races. They could just be completely fan-made "factions" among the newly-freed human population.

Anyone remember the Nox? And the yet-to-be-seen Furlings. Both of which were mentioned in the Episiode "The Fifth Race". As for any spare races, just make them rival Goa'uld.

I've done the research on Goa'uld personal shields, and they actually defend against anything so long as they move within a certain range of speeds, because, as I've read, they use 'oscillating' shields. If something moves slow enough or fast enough, it can penetrate the personal shields of the Goa'uld.

Shields in Stargate, much like in just about every Sci-Fi universe, are worn down as they take hits, and let through only minimal damage - either that, or the shields block the shot completely, but, like actual physical shields, the shock is still felt by what is 'holding up' the shield, just not to the same extent as it would be if the shields were not there.

It's just quite strange that this game does shields and armor different from everyone else, that's all. Unique, but strange.

I'm not sure about the Arceans, the Drath, and the Thalans.

Maybe like this for me :

Altarian rep => Tolan
Arceans => Tokra
Snathis => Furlings ^^

And what about Atlantis?
Thalans => Wraiths
???? => Geniis...

That actually occured to me today when I was watching Atlantis reruns, but the Thalans/Wraith won't work. The Thalan AI naturally inclines towards good, while the Wraith, as we all know, are inherently evil.

Then again, the only Wraith capable of getting to our galaxy anyways is Michael (unless he's dead by now, the Great White North is about a season behind you guys), who seems to be basically trustworthy.

The Drath might work as the Geniis. Both are masters of espionage and deceit (how many times have the Geniis tricked Atlantis by now?) but that still leaves the Arceans. The Altarians would make lousy Tolan. They really would. (The Arceans might manage, though, if the Tolan weren't dead). How about the Trust? Or are they too weak/to tied up with the remnant Goa'uld to make an independant faction?

Which makes the list:

Terran Alliance = Tau'ri
Drengin Empire = Remnant Goa'uld
Altarian Republic = Tokra
Torian Confederation: Free Jaffa
Yor Collective = Replicators
Iconian Refuge = Asgard
Thalan Empire = Human Wraith
Drath Legion = Genii
Korx Dominion = Lucien Alliance
Arcean Empire = Tollan/the Trust

Replicators are gone. Why not take the Ori instead?

Replicators are gone. Why not take the Ori instead?

The Replicators in the Milky Way galaxy may be gone, but there's the Asurans still left in the Pegasus galaxy (EDIT: they're a form of 'replicator' built directly by the Ancients/Altarans as a nanite-based weapon to be used against the Wraith. They tend to prefer using the same form and technologies/designs as their creators, so they appear human), and there may be remnants of the 'original' Replicators beyond the reach of the Stargate-assisted Dakara SuperWeapon.

AH, OK. I'm not very much into Atlantis so that part eluded me.
Still it would be sooooo much nicer to deal with Adria(Morena Baccarin) on the Diplomacy/Trade screen than with any other face, don't you think?

As we've already established, the Dread Lords = the Ori. This is because:

1. Both are Ancients (or Precursors, Forerunners, First Ones, whatever you want to call them, it's the same idea)
2. Both are EVIL Ancients
3. Both fought a war with the good Ancients
4. Both are far, far more powerful than any other faction in their universe.

That last one is probably the most important. If the Ori were a standard major race, it would completely throw off the balance. So, the Yor are going to be the Asurans, and the Dread Lords (who are SUPPOSED to be superpowerful) are going to be the Ori.
