Average Time To Finish

Ok, simple question. What's the average time it takes to finish a game, in game terms? (i.e. game years). I realize that this would vary with universe size, racs, and difficulty.

I've finished about 6 games since I bought the game last month. Have worked my way up to medium galaxy in size, and just over average for difficulty. Seems like I've been able to win a victory in about 3 game years for all the games so far. No tech victories, 1 influence, the rest diplomatic. Played only as humans so far.

Any other data points?

In my first Metaverse game, I completed a game on level Painful, on a gigantic map, everything abundant, 9 opponents, and very fast research. The Drengin surrended to me on Dec. 15, 2229, just under 5 years but it was counted as 4 years. At game end I had 200-250 planets under my control. In this game there was lots and lots of activity in each turn; in real time the game lasted 2 months because I have very limited time to play.

I'm 14 months into my second gigantic game on level Masochistic.

I average about 4 years. I play challenging--time seems independent of galaxy size for me.

You can actually do some investigation yourself on this question by looking at the Metaverse scores. By clicking on a player, you get to see their individual games, and this includes the time to finish.

I usually take around 5-10 years (sometimes even more than that) I like to have a game where by the end my empire is nearly perfected ( nearly all techs researched, massive fleets, ect), because if I don't I feel like i've wasted those many hours. I usually play with gigantic setting with everything abundant, and very fast research. Around 2-3 days in real time.

I spent 18 years on my first game in a gigantic universe going for military conquest (I was playing on a low difficulty level and doing a lot of unnecessary stuff). Best I've done so far for military conquest in gigantic is 8. Been keeping it under 12 years. But, I play long games intentionally. If you jump right into war, they finish a lot faster. I hold off on war until I'm ready take on the whole board. That makes for a lot of ships and a lot of destruction at the end. And, it all happens in a handful of turns.

for the pointer, if you come for the strategy advices, will, I often believe, each people often conclude with a unique method of strategy best for the personal preferences, some can be time variable, and some doesn't. Personally, I start the games with so called, safe invasion, that often time longer time for a full military conquest, however, I start turning to risk invasion, and farther using micromanagement, and I can even end a game in a year or two. I believe it is best for you to understand the game farther, and knowing more, then, it is no doubt you can shorten your conquest time by far. After play number of meta games and regular, I believe the best way to know the strategies for personal mood, are to try all the strategies, and find the best way and further improve it.

The only best pointer I can offer which may suite for all type of strategies is make good use of micromanagement. Don't let the computer do the management for you, it can really make a big differences.
