That's ghastly all of MU's scores where flagged. I've looked at those scores and did not see anything screwy there. Did someone actually go in and manually flag them?

Master U's scores came to the devs' attention, and manual review of the game data (yes, more than just your score gets uploaded) showed that those games with disproportionately high scores (200k-300k on a medium crippling?) were played with impossibly high racial/empire bonuses. Whether this was intended by him or was the result of ability cumulation bugs such as were present in older versions of the game, we have no idea, and make no judgement. But those scores were determined to be illegitimate by any means, and as such were manually flagged. The rest of his games remained untouched.

There are others with scores that do look screwy and those have not been flagged

If you know of any that are as disproportinately high as his were for the map size/difficulty played, report them to the devs for manual review.

Thanks for the explanation.

If it were me and I was guilty of using illegal game settings, I would just say bummer, clean things up, and carry on. If it was the game's fault for bugging out the files, I'd just say bummer, clean things up, and carry on. The thing is, a few good games can put you back in the rankings. A bunch of old low scoring games are not worth saving. They hurt you more than help you. My first character had a bunch of those and I cleared them even though it had some rank. I'm playing with that character now and I'm confident I'll get it up there again pretty quick.

I just finished a game with 1.31. As I expected, I only got about half the points I would normally get on a gigantic map after 5 years. I tried going back to my last saved game to try to stretch it out for another year or two in order to get more accomplished, but my only opponent kept declareing war after a turn or two then surrendering. Those still using 1.2 are going to have a big advantage IMO.

and those evil, manipulative diplo's?

Thanks for the kind words.

No problem.

Yea, 1.3 is brutal in the scoring department. The thing is, if 1.3 was all about "balancing" the game, then they should have "balanced" the scores as well. As it stands, using 1.2 offeres a HUGE advantage in the Metaverse. That doesn't sound very balanced to me.

My point exactly.

Lord Reaper I have looked at yr profile.

Yr score is lower beause:-

1. U lowered the difficulty level from crippling to painful.

2. U played a year less, missed out on more points from increased pop. growth, economy, military and research.

I think if u had stayed at the same level, plus played 1 more yr u would have got 60,000 - 70,000 pts. 1.31 still lower than 1.2 but only slightly so.

It is not as simple as that. I was comparing it to the score on Sept 5,2006, where I played a 5 year game on gigantic and scored 84,500. And yes there was another game that took 6 years on Sept 19th in which I scored nearly the same amount with 83,750.

The game I played using 1.3 that only scored 42,000 was played on Painful instead of Crippling but that also is part of the problem, Crippling is now much more difficult, then it was before, in fact the painful game I played was harder then some of the Crippling games I played on 1.2.

I don't think playing only one level lower should reduce my score from 84,500 to 42,000, but the fact that I had to play on a lower level is part of the problem.

The problem is that it takes so much longer to accomplish the same things you did on 1.2 because the economy is now so extremely slow to develop, and that makes everything else slower. Before I was able to develop a fantastic economy on Crippling, now I can not even come close to that on Painful. I was able before by the 4th year to purchase many ships and buildings per turn with cash, this resulted in my research, military, and social building all to develop at an incredible rate, I can no longer afford to do that with 1.3 even on the easier setting.

So I should have been able to accomplish a lot more on the easier setting not less. Before I was able to complete all research by year 5 and the other time by year 6 with 1.2 on crippling. On the easier setting of painful with 1.3 I was no where close to accomplishing that because I could no longer afford to purchase lots of Neutrality Learning Centers or Discovery Spheres which helped me to finish the research tree quickly. Also could no longer purchase lots of ships etc. That is how I run my economy, I create a super economy where I can purchase most things instead of waiting for them to be built, but I can no longer do that. I was so far behind with 1.3 on an easier setting that it probably would have taken 8 or 10 years to accomplish it with 1.3 which would lower the score anyway because it would be more years.

So the fact that I was playing on a easier level should have made it even easier to develop my economy, research and military, not slow it down to a crawl. Also you cannot get the higher population like before because of the changes they made, the morale now gets too bad if you build more then one farm per planet, so this hurts your score as well. These changes may seem minor looked at individually but they have a domino effect. Poorer morale effects how large a population you can have, and how much you can tax which hurts the economy, which in turn effects research and military, etc. So that is why I said those still using 1.2 have a big advantage and can get higher scores because they are not handicapped by the changes in 1.3. It has really messed up the game balance in my opinion.

So

I guess thats it then, the empire has thrown in the towel

thats really weak guys.

I'm not throwing in any towel. Look at my profile. I just posted a healthy score. It *is* lower in magnitude and difficulty than I was achieving with 1.2, but it's not a bad score at all.

Hi CraigHB, I greatly respect yr loyalty to yr empire.

However, unless Master U returns u have lost yr leader/emperor effectively.

I am puzzled why Master U just upped and left after putting so much effort in.

Perhaps there is a way of making a new emperor so u could carry on? Perhaps Kryo will be able to help with that?

BUT

If u can't that means u have lost the abilty to make senators and yr empire creator/driving force.

I have read alot of yr posts on this forum CraigHB and agreed with many of yr points. So if u reconsider and would like to join the B.C. Space Orcas u would be very welcome. U have a score high enough for senator status within our empire and if u were to join us u would have a big impact, giving us 1st place empire status.

Lovepump has joined us.

Anyway should u choose to stay, I respect yr loyalty, if a new emperor can be made of the galactic empire, I would suggest u would make a good leader.

I hadn't realized that Master U had left. Sure he hasn't posted is the past few days, and sure his last post didn't look promising for us, but is that any reasonto believe that he has truely gone never to come back. If you have any proof that he has truely gone please share it with us, otherwise I will stay for the time being. In the event that he did leave we should try to enstate a new emperor. This is the only real active Star Wars based empire since most of the members of the Jedi Republic went inactive. Kryo and I are some of the very few who are left from our GC1 days. I would love nothing more than to to see this empire thrive, but if this empire dies to, I will eventually have to jump ship and move on. Now is not the time though. Not while there is still hope for a comeback. We still are the #4 placed empire aren't we? Master U had a dream of bringing us to third place. How can we ever hope to accomplish that if we all leave. We must remain strong and keep going, for the sake of the empire.

Hehe, the low scoring guys can leave if they want

Anyway, thanks for the invite, Megablob. If this empire does dissipate, I'll take you up on your offer. I've often read posts of yours that are in agreement with my opinions so we would have that in common. Probably be a good place for me if I need one.

my scores aint much worse than yours in 1.31. and i'm fairly new to the game.

very new to understanding the dynamics of the game and realising that just to win aint enough - you must win with style to gain points, well im working on it and i'm sure the big scores will follow.

shame on you for calling me a low scorer... 34th out of 3704 on metaverse aint bad after 7 metaverse games having only recently joing.

come over to orcas. pointless hoping for, as galciv2 has deemed a cheat to return.

What the heck is a Space Orca? What a silly name. Why not the Space Dolphins, or the Space Gold Fish? The Galactic Diplomats is nearly as bad, I am not a diplomat, I am a warrior, a conqueror. I chose the Galactic Empire, because it has a Star Wars theme and I always play as a Sith Lord.

I am staying where I am also, but I may stop playing metaverse games anyway, at least for a while. I want to play casual games with mods, and the settings as I choose them, not as they are in 1.31, instead of just trying to get high points, in boring, long drawn out unconventional games that are not really fun to play.

Master U, if you’re lurking and read this I'd like to encourage you to return to the forums and to the game in general. It's much quieter around here without you and that’s not necessarily a good thing. There are those even outside of the empire you founded that miss your youthful exuberance. You made a noticeable contribution to the GalCiv2 community with your mods and the founding of a competitive empire. What happened with your scores was unfortunate no matter what the cause, but there’s no reason to let that be the end of your GalCiv2 world.

Master U, has quit. He wants me to run the Empire and said he made me the administrator, however it has not worked, I have no administrative functions. It now says the emperor is "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay", but still has his old characters. I assume "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay" is a name that is inserted if an emperor closes their account? Don't know what I am supposed to do.

Here is the email he sent me:

"listen, after all that happen, I decided to quit, but not officially, you can tell the Empire members here at the site, if you love the game and the Empire please don't quit like me, I want you all to continue without me and get the third place and even more then that. I give you the power to control the Empire so from now on you are the new leader. I had it with the GC2 people, I moved on, sorry for abandoning you and all the Empire but I won't continue with this. you are now the Site Admin, use this power wisely (kidding), and maybe some day we will meet again in other game or wherever. "

Okay, Master U has turned the Empire over to me by changing the account name and turning it over to me. Darth Nihilus which is one of my character names will now also be the Emperor. At this time I plan to still post under the name of Lord Reaper so that my medals still appear. Put too much work into them to have then disappear from my posts.

CragHB, I have sent you a private message on the Empires web site. Since you are our top scorer and most active member, I would like your opinion of a change I would like to make.

Hopefully we can get others to join again, revitalize the Galactic Empire.

I told Master U, how much we will all miss him, and that if he ever decides to play again and wants the Empire back that I will switch it back over to him.

Congratulations, on becoming emperor Lord Reaper. I'm still here and working on submitting more games as well. I just submitted another one a few seconds ago actually. Lets get rolling people! The Galactic Empire lives on!

I have decided to change the way one becomes a senator in the Empire. The top 20 scorers at any time will be senators. I think this will give insentive to some members to play more in order to earn and hold onto a senator position. It may also encourange other players to join in order to become a senator in the Empire.
