build a gun

i have a stupid idea why not as the last tech for each gun allow the player and AI to design it ie tell the computer how much damage it does and the computer tells player how much damage how big you know all of the little things about the gun

i know i know stupid idea but i just thought

If you want to do that, you can. Just add a new tech after the final weapon, add then add the weapon itself. However, I would hate to have to do this in my game.

i am sure it is that easy but i haven't tried any modding yet and the weapon i am talking about would be a veraible weapon wouldn't have to be the same everytime

and i did say it was a stupid idea

wait a minute, you get to chose how much damage it does?

no, to many people would have it deal like 9999999999999 damage in one hit. if you want to write a mod for your own games, thats your choice.

yes but you forget that the computer will decide the cost and size of the gun by the amount of damage so 99999999999999 will cost like 999999999999999999999999999 cash to build and maybe you can get one on a huge hull

Actually, I don't think it's a stupid idea at all. I've only seen one game that had an option for designing your own weapons (and the rest of the components, too.), and I had a lot of fun with it. Weapon design sounds like a great idea.

A weapon has:
  1. Damage
  2. Size
  3. SizeMod
  4. Cost (in billions of credits)
  5. Research Cost (tech requirement)
  6. Weapon class (Gun, Missile, or Beam)

If you provide five of the six values, the last one can be calculated. Otherwise, there is a range of possible solutions that gets much greater for each unknown value.
