"Galactic privateer" Achievement does not always work.

It prevents single (non-grouped) eneny ships from attacking your freighters, but if they are in a group they can (and do) attack every time. Bottom line, is that if you build this wonder, your freighters are still open game.

You guys are missing the point. Although the freighter is attacked, the trade route still remains. You will see a new freighter at your homeworld, the very next turn.

If that's the way it works, how come if your enemy has the Galactic Privateer, and then you try to attack one of their freighters, you get a warning dialog and it won't let you attack them at all? Shouldn't it work the same if they try to attack you when you have the Privateer?

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding in the way people think the Privateer is supposed to work - from what I can tell, he only protects the freighters on trade routes that originate from the planet that the Galactic Privateer is built on, not all the trade routes. So he's pretty useless, especially on larger maps.

No, there are two things that deal with trade.
The Privateer is one and the other is an item, Trade Federation I believe, that is put up to vote on in the counsel to protect freighters.

The Privateer protects trade routes and the other protects freighters.

If that vote had not come up yet when you were attacked they would have been able to fire on your freighters. But if it had already been voted on and accepted when you went to war, you would not have been able to attack their freighters.

Can someone representing GalCiv2 concisely define what the "Galactic privateer" Achievement is supposed to do?

i think in the 1.3 beta change list it as something about it, i *think*

The Galactic Privateer is supposed to keep the mini-freighters from being destroyed.  It's fixed in the 1.3 beta 1.

Bah. mega bug now with Privateer and 1.3b: The entire Torian fleet is following around one of my freighters trying to attack it. But I've got the Privateer so they just surround it and follow it around. It has effectively taken out the entire Torian fleet. Now Ive gotta restart and NOT get the Privateer and hope that this bug only affects the human player. Need 1.31b ASAP!

Just wondering if that bug has been fixed yet.

The devs are aware of it. Hopefully if Brad is able to work on it, it will be fixed in the next build of 1.3.

I'm actually questioning the concept the privateer wonder, because if you had that technology, couldn't it be applied my other ships thus allowing me to choose when and where to attack? I haven't tried to install a shipping container on any of my warships yet, but will that make them attack proof with this wonder? I also haven't tried haven't tried leaving trade ship in orbit to see if the enemy then can't attack it. Also, why can't ships attack planets (orbital bombardment/destruction)? This is probably the biggest omission in the game. I think they should play Master of Orion II for some ideas in this area.

The Privateer only affects the mini-freighters that are generated once a trade route has been established. It does not apply to unused 'real' freighters.

Design descision.
