Problem with directx - Help needed

Hello,
I have just install Galactic Civ II on my computer (Win XP - AMD X2 4800+ - NVidia 7900GT), and when I want to run it, it tell me that it requires Directx 9.0c

Nevertheless Directx 9.0c is already installed (and just updated from the Microsoft website), and the latest driver for the 7900GT is also installed.
The only problem I can imagine is that I want to run the game on French Windows XP, but is it's here that is the problem, I don't know how to fix it.

Finally, at this time, I have only buy and install a game that I can't play with it.
So, can some one save me ? It'll be very helpfull.

Thank you.

You can't run it on a non-english language setting, due to decimilisation in the US being 1,000.00 as opposed to 1.000,00

Control panel > regional and language options > set language to english (uk or US)

UK is cooler. We have more U's.

Thank you Marcathonas for your quick help,
I change the language but nevertheless, the result is always the same, the game doesn't work.
Any new idea will be welcome.

PS ; I'm from France.

After reading the debug.err file create by the game at each time I try to start it, it apear that it think it's directx 9.0b installed on my computer.
But, as I download and install at least 10 times directx 9.0c directly from Microsoft, and as it seems that wop1977 has exactly the same problem, it appears that under a French Win XP the game doesn't recognise correctly directx 9.0c.

So please Stardock, Paradox and all the Saints... find a solution to this problem... you'll be blessed.

Hello "compatriote" !

(Bad) Translation
Did you try to change your game resolution to your desktop resolution ? It solved my problem !
Go to My Documents/My Games/GalCiv2 and open prefs.ini. You can change your desktop resolution to the one noted in this file, or directly change the one in the file ! the values are located in the top of the file.

Bonne chance !

and sorry for my terrible language

If it thinks it's directX9.0b, then have you tried uninstalling 9.0b before 9.0c? This could cause the bug. If this doesn't fix it, can you copy-paste the debug.err file onto the forum?
