Ion storms

Okay, something I was thinking about: What about ion storms? They pop up, don't affect planets, and deal damage to ships and space stations (reduced by shields, of course). Maybe give the surveyor attachment the ability to detect where they will pop up at. Make them optional, of course. It should give the surveyors a late-game use.

I usually just upgrade my Surveyors with a weapon and some defenses, then use them as grouped as "Wolfpacks" to lurk behind enemy lines on Recon Duty and to find straggling unescorted Troop Transports and such. Ion Storms seem like a decent idea though (why not eh?).

To add to that..how about other spacial anomolies like nebulas they can be useful for not only to harvest rare resources that are in them but also to stratgecaly hide your own warships and can be used in a tactical capacity.

That sounds like a feature in Space Empires IV. Very cool to hide ships in. You can see out but the enemy can't see in unless they enter the Nebula.
