The upper limit is how many you can build before you start spending more money than taxes bring in. Thus, it varies widely.

Note that's not the complete answer, but generally, that can easily lead to you going deeply in debt.

i dont really think there is one... there might be, but i doubt it.

i think it is a matter of what your comp can handle and what you can reap in with taxes. i once created an armada (well, it wasnt all in one fleet... several actually...) of countless tiny ships. these little swarms eradicated everything my enemy threw at me. i could produce about three of them a week and it could wipe them out in one shot... however it only had so many super ships.... basically i think i eceeded 100 if not 200 at the end of the game. those little mosquitos rocked...

So... Throw enough darts at a tank and eventually you clog the tread? Nice strategy ^^

Thanks.

I actually enjoy making superships with strong defences.
Small ships are unlikely to have enough attack points to breach my defences.
My superships carve through the AI's fleets of small ships like a knife through butter.

In my latest game. My planets have produced enough production points to build the ship. Yet, the ship remains "unbuilt" with "turn 0" on the display. It is only when I decommission a few old ships that the new ships can be built.

Weird !

In theroy, As many tiles as there are in the game * 10

In practice? Once you hit 40 quality ships or so maintennance really drags your budget down.

mm... ya.. but my fighters usually outmatch anything the AI has... the little ships swarm anything they throw at them... the sheer numbers make it hard to get rid of them. large ships take a lnog time to fire. when you have thousands of miniature ships out there, they take a long time to eradicate you. a good strategy is to have one big capital ship in a fleet of fighters (as many as possible) so that the enemy ships will shoot the little things and the capital ship stays around for a really long time.

Yea, love those huge hulls, but the bee swarm approach sounds very interesting. I'll have to try that some time. Thanks for mentioning it.

Aside from the tiles in game *10, the upper limit is how many it takes before you CTD.
