Human Perfection??

Is it attainable?

Earlier this evening the idea of a human attaining perfection was presented. I know what I believe, which is that it's not possible, and yet, because I don't know scriptures by heart to prove myself on the spot, debating continued. I earnestly believe that I'm right about this, and that by no means will a human become perfect on earth. Right now I don't care about who "wins" this argument. I want the truth to be seen, whatever that may truely be. According to my debating "opponant", if one stays in constant communication with God, and their only focus in life is to please God, they will be so in tune with Him that they simply will not sin. I believe that it's in our nature to screw up. We're not born perfect and we'll die in that same state. I'm not sure I even want to bring up the subject again, because I know whatever point I make, whether it's true or not, he'll simply tell me I'm taking the information out of context. But I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks. I think the majority of people would say that human's cannot be perfect, but I could be wrong. So CAN a person eventually achieve perfection?

If ANY one single person could be perfect...then Jesus didn't need to come at all did He?

I do believe so, but only with the help of the Spirit.
