Planet development - 'Repair' things?

I was playing last night for the first time in months (and the first time with 1.2) and I keep seeing something in the build queue that said it 'would make repairs faster'.

Ok, I understand productivity (a little, hammers, right?) And I know about morale, and food production.

But what does 'repair things' get you? Does that improve your manufacturing? Does it speed research? Does morale go up when you 'repair things'?

I'd be very interested in comments on what people think that's good for.

Thanks, all.

Yup. I'm going to guess that it was the Micro Repair Bots. Those just mean that you will gain HP on damaged ships faster than normal.

Thanks for the info. Is it cumulative? If I have ten on ten planets will my ships repair their HP faster than if I have 1?

Does it matter which planet they're on?

That was my guess, but I want to add a question. For micro-repair bots to work, does your ship have to be built at that specific planet? And does it only work when a ship is in orbit of that planet? I often build that trade good, but I don't always pay attention as to whether its working or not.

Was this a 1.2 addition? Maybe it's in the readme, I'll check when I get home.

Micro Repair Bots works for all of the ships in your fleet, no matter where they are or where they were manufactured. You can only build one because it is a trade good, and if someone else builds it before you, you can only get it by 1) Getting them to trade the ability to you, or 2) Acquiring the alien planet that built the Micro Repair Bots. It's not a 1.2 addition, but has been in the game from the start. It's well worth having, but to be honest someone else usually gets that one before I do ... so I end up getting it somewhere along my path of galactic conquest.
