Don't think so...
One of the minimum requirements is a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphic card.
The GeForce2 is not one of those.

It ran OK - not brilliant - on my Dx8.1 GF4400Ti

Those cards ARE 9.0c compatible, they just aren't made to use ir because those cards are old.

The mx series is for those who want the name without the features. I believe it will run on that card, although it is severely outdated and you should consider at least upgrading to a newer GeForce4 card. Given that the GeForce7 is out ... it shouldn't be very expensive these days.

The GeForce2 MX400 (my grandma's computer had one) isn't a really strong game card to begin with.

it *might* run, but you will most certainly have problems as GeForce2's and GeForce4MX's arenot truly DriectX9 compatible (yes you can run it with DX9, but they do not support many features in the DX9 specs). Not to mention it will perform very poorly.

A memory upgrade would be in order as well--while the game should be able to run on 256mb, you'd have to set your swap file very large and stick to small galaxies if you want to get any sort of decent performance. 512mb or 1gb is strongly recommended for GC2.

You can get a GeForce 6200 off eBay for less than you would pay for the game itself. That's a fairly modern GPU with 9.0c compatability.

The game runs on my laptop, which has the GeForce4 420 Go (only 16Mb video memory), 2Ghz Pentium 4, and 512Mb RAM. The game runs alright speed-wise, it's just missing textures. The biggest issue is that ships don't look very nice, which is why I stopped using my laptop to play. With a GeForce 2 MX400 you would definately be missing out on some of the graphics. You can pick up GeForce 5xxx series cards new for around $30-40, I've even seen 6200s for $50, so I recommend getting a newer video card.

You could always download the demo, and then see how well it plays.
