Multiplayer!

https://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?search=multiplayer

I can use the search button capesh!

I have read and don't care if it has been said before I will say it again.

This game needs Multiplayer there is NO reason not to have Direct IP connect for LAN I means for petes sack Birth of the Federation had it.

My friends and I are sick of Civ 4 this game is so much better but we don’t even touch it because we have LANs and can't play together.

I understand you have to wait a lot of time making the game hard to manage multiplayer online, but i mean this game would be awesome type of game to have your friends come over have a LAN chill and play for a few weeks.

have any players made a mod which allows direct IP like with Rome Total war?

There was a poll awhile ago where only about 10% or was it 5% of the players wanted anykind of multiplayer. So it that was a clear signal to SD not to diver resources on multiplayer development. The DA expansion pack will not have multiplayer either so maybe in GC3, which wont come out in years as I understanded.

There is no multiplayer mod for GC2, but Iam not sure if it impossible to create one. I doubt it since GC2 has none what so ever multiplayer implemented. RTW had TCP/IP gaming from the start.

The situation sucks since Iam sure nobody would be against multiplayer if it did not diver SD resources from AI development etc. Guess its the kinda situation where you choose to satisfy 9 people out of 10 and not the otherway around :/

Polls can be illusive, Obviously people who play this game play single player because people who want to play with people are not playing so you are not asking a cross section of gamers so you its obvious what result your going to get.

Its like me going to a vegan meeting and asking if you would like to stop people killing animals.

Yes, but in that case you're asking Stardock to flip off the requests of many actual existing paying customers in order to satisfy the requests of possible perhaps maybe customers and a few who actually are.

Look, I'd quite like to have say a simple hotseat MP option - I quite often play the game when I go round to my brothers - we consult & confer, but it might be interesting to play against rather than with him (he's more aggressive, I'm better at development). But not at the expense of AI.

There are many great multiplayer games you can play, but Stardock have made it very very clear right from the start that Galciv2 is not designed to be MP and was never intended to be MP, and have now stated that it is never going to be multiplayer. I really think it's time we just accept it, deal with the crushing tragedy of it all and move on with our lives, hoping one day to rebuild our shattered happiness. Further requests are just going to come across as nagging & whining.

Unfortunately, Stardock don't have the resources for an offline poll. (Offline is the only fair solution, as many single player gamers do not frequent gaming websites. Indeed many do not have internet access at all. An online poll would skew results in favour of MP.)

People who would buy a multiplayer expansion: about half. (Stardock want at least 2/3 to justify)

People who want multiplayer more than anything : 10%

Illusive or not, MP is the vocal minority here.

its a shame twas' a good game

I don't understand why they can't just add the option for direct connect like botf or gal civ1. i Just wanted to play this game on a lan with my mates to bad.

And i dispute single player gamers do not go to gaming websites.

I am a single player gamer other than when i LAN with my friends. I can't stand player with other people I'm a bit of a hermit when it comes to gaming.

Firaxis developed Civ IV around multiplayer first, and then focused on single player; the reason why is because they learned an important lesson with Civ III:

You don't take a complex single-player game, and make it into a decent multiplayer one. It just doesn't happen.

If a multiplayer expansion for GalCiv II was made, it'd be no suprise if it sucked. Everyone is much better off if Stardock just builds GalCiv III around multiplayer instead.

I'm good with Galciv2 being single player.

But when they do a fantasy turn based strategy game, I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like that to be multiplayer.

I LOVED Master Of Magic sooo much. I can't wait to see what Stardock could do with the idea...

But IT has to be multiplayer.

Their next game, Society, already in development will be multiplayer.

I do agree that Gal Civ should have a lan option or ip option ergo you wold not need to restructure the game to take away quality because i wold love to get 3 or 4 of my friends together and battle aginst eachother or smash the Ai in to little bits whit out losing the sepcial events and the depilomatic ablities but if Gal Civ is fated to be strictly singel player I will be more than thrilled (except someting goes bugy at the 3rd mission and I cant play on) but still a option for just lan or ip would be nice
