Summer of Galactic Civilizations II

1.3 is coming, Dark Avatar is in the works...

This week we expect to release the first beta of Galactic Civilizations II v1.3.  If you already have Galactic Civilizations II, there's a lot of cool stuff for this summer coming up.  If you don't have Galactic Civilizations II or you know someone you think would like it, it's available in quantity at stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, EB Games, Gamestop, and elsewhere.

The 1.3 series of updates are not so much about features but rather adding in the tweaks, AI adjustments, and other things that helps keep strategy games fresh and new.  Meanwhile, the team is hard at work on the upcoming expansion pack, Dark Avatar.

Keep an eye out on the Journals section. Stay tuned.

I am gonna wait till closer to DA's release date before I commit money to the pre-order, but I am defineitly going to get the Expansion pack.

I am sooooo looking forwad to the death of the load a saved game miss a production phase bug.

Ding Dong the last real bug is dead.

But the tech tree does have some flubs in it that could use attention (Subspace Blaster weaker than predecessers, Subspace Anihilator missing but still have to research it, Railgun MkV and Mk VI both have same tech requirement, extra gun techs make guns so expensive that beam-22 Doom Rays take the same number of turns to research as gun-5 SpikeDriver IV, Tristrontum Armor II has the same values as Tristrontum Armor I)

I still pre-ordered as soon as I heard about the Dark Avatar expansion. You guys are doing a great job

yea, that one definetly needs to be hammered out, and hopefully the AI will be much much better with the new patch fix.

and I'd like to see a change log too.

DA alrdy pre ordered here!

Iam curious about the picture frogboy posted. Are we getting sweet formation fleet battles with 1.3 or with DA? Please say they come with 1.3, the combat viewer has lost all its initial apeal because the bumping cars battles.

Imagine, two huge armadas moving closer to each and at the same time pounding each other to bits. I hear it is alrdy implemented a bit in the test mod but I have not tried it. I would worship SD a bit more if it could be implemented into the GC2 vanilla too. Maybe as a option?

Please add in tooltips for social and research production like you did for military production in the 1.1-patch. Would be nice to be able to see how much is from bonuses and such there too.

I second that. I'll repost here what I wrote a long time ago on this matter:

The description for Subspace Annihilator says:
"The Subspace Annihilator is the Subspace Blaster but with a newly engineered crystal that can inflict massive beam weapon damage."
So they are both bugged. Subspace Blaster is a joke and Subspace Annihilator doesn't even exist.

It isn't only the beam-weapon line that is in need of some adjustments.
Here are some weird gun stats:

Technology Mass Drivers III gives both Railgun MK V and Railgun MK VI
(component name, cost, size, sizemod, damage)
"Railgun MK V", 22, 6, 5, 1
"Railgun MK VI", 22, 5, 5, 1
Pointless, either remove MK VI completly or make one of them better and much more expensive with another name.

Quantum Driver follows Graviton Driver IV
"Graviton Driver IV", 33, 4, 4, 3.....6 damage / 8 space.....18 damage / 24 space.
"Quantum Driver", 37, 8, 4, 4.....4 damage / 8 space.
"Quantum Driver II", 37, 7, 4, 4.....4 damage / 7 space.
"Quantum Driver III", 37, 6, 4, 4.....4 damage / 6 space.....16 damage / 24 space.
Quantum Driver I, II and III are all worse then Graviton Driver IV, their predecessor.

Glaring bugs indeed ignuss and I certainly expect 1.3 to fix these (as it is advertised as bug crunching). I would also like to see the inaccurate Goverment text fixed in F6 screen (forgot the name )

Whilst I REALLY do appreciate the continued development of this game I would like it if this 1.3 release concentrated on BUG fixes over and above anything else.

It is the bugs, like those mentioned in this thread and numerous others that have been reported, that cause me the greatest irritation when playing. Whilst each individual bug might seem trivial to some I find that cumulatively they spoil my game.

I was just about to pre-order it, but I was a bit confused by the next page, because it wanted me to register. If I have to register a different account in order to buy it, how does it get 'linked' with this account, so my serial number works properly?
