Very weird AI activity in 1.2

Ok Iam not sure if this is a bug but frogboy should really look into this one. Let the picture speak for itself:

In that game Iam allied with Arcaens. But still what the heck is he moving literally all his fleets next to my homeworld??

here is the save game if you need it http://www.turixline.fi/tomas/QuickSave.sav">Link

hmm, I don't think the AI is capable of breaking alliances to stab you in the back. Have you waited to see what the did?

I remember moving large fleets next to my "allies" worlds too. If the AI thinks it can take you fast then why not do it?
If the AI did nothing to you for the rest of the game then perhaps its a bug but otherwise if they attacked and took you out its simply a good move. A dirty move, but still valid.

yeah but the question is can an ally backstab you?

I think a better question would be, why an ally could NOT backstab you? We do it all the time to the AI so why not it to us? Then again, perhaps I am simply an opportunistic evil player.

I had this happen too. One of the AI races stacked all of it's fleets next a planet of mine(It was way beyond anyone else in military). Every so often it would go to war with another race and an it's fleets would fly off to wreak havoc then come back and wait. Unfortunatly one of my allies asked for me to honor my alliance and declare war on this race. Needless to say since I was playing trade/research type game it was over pretty quickly on my part.

Why not just find what their weakness is and make all your ships to those specifications. Then mass them up right next to them. Then break the alliance, annihilate them, and make them surrender. I do it all the time.

Looks like a pretty smart AI is saying don't backstab me or else.

You backstab the AI in earlier games? -- maybe it is learning.

This situation has been going on for quite some time. Iam going to finish that game today if possible. But like previous people have said, AI has never broken up a alliance with me before.

Sure looks like they would like to, but just seems they are not capable of doing so in 1.2 .

I've seen this happen, though not since 1.1 (haven't played a 1.2 game yet.) It was usually just a staging zone, and I like to think it is a statement of "look what I could do, should you provoke me.)

Had this happen in one of my games with the Arceans, they were way in the lead as the no 1 military power. They were stacking fleets of ships in 1 parsec of space. It seems like a insurance policy against anyone going to war with them. As soon as any race went to war with them...boom...a couple of turns later they were an ex-race. I saved my game then declared war on them, they went through me like a knife through butter, destroying all my fleets/ships/starbases/trade routes in less then 6 turns. It was scarey. So I reloaded my save game and just went for my influence victory which I had been going for anyway, it took ages but less time than building a military capable of beating the Arceans.

sounds like a very smart move to me too

and an AI should be able to learn otherwise you learn how to win and that is what you do all the time ie it becomes boring game
