Full of Bugs: Waste of time

This game was working fine until I used the update. Now I have all sorts of weird stuff happening. Military, social and Research production dropping to zero on all planets, other civilizations taking over half the galaxy in the first twenty game turns (on normal difficulty), plus having the majority of the research tree done in that time by them. They messed up real bad on this one. Used to like this game, but i'm not going to waste any more time on it. Spreading the word to everyone I know, too. Waste of time.

Details? Debug file?

Try setting each AI difficulty individually. And, if the tech tree moves too fast for you, you could lower tech speed (in the galaxy creation screen.)

It is odd that most other people posting have not experienced your problems or the bugs that you report (notably without debug.err so there is no opportunity to even try to help you out).

Try reinstalling the game. Try Stardock support.

I suspect that you have not gone far enough in terms of troubleshooting your machine, and so are flaming the game itself without cause.

I think he should do the opposite. Anyone unwilling to try fixing something, especially software, before whining (sp?) and quitting isn't worth the money that SD would have to spend on support. Same thing for the friends probably.

Mal, sometimes the update downloads get corrupted, especially if you do it through Stardock Central.

Try redownloading it from this site to your hard drive and install it from there.
Then delete the Prefs.ini file from your My Documents/Games/GalCiv2 folder and reset the options before you begin another game. And don't try to load a game from any previous version, that is a sure way to get problems.

To the rest of you, give the guy a break. He's frustrated.

Or it could be that he is sorry at the game.

I don't agree with ya Moosetek13, if a Debug was posted the problem could be looked and hopefully a solution found. If all someone can do is post comments that the game has too many bugs and now hes going to start spreading bad press about it to all of his friends I don't find that fair. Sure its his right to complain but, GC2 is not like Dungeon Lords where no Dev replaies about problems or updates come out. (BY the way I still have a copy of that crappy game that was tossed at me from a friend when he bought it).

Also if the update is giving problems he can always go back to an earlier version, I have seen a few sites that have the older 1.1 update for download still.

The first reply probably hit the crux of the problem. Assuming his install isn't corrupted what probably happened is one of the AI got set to maximum difficulty. So not only is it playing as smart as possible but also getting huge bonuses from nowhere.

Maybe Mal is making good on his comment to not "waste time." He hasn't replied to anyone here yet. I wonder if he has read any of these comments. Posting a problem and then having many other people attempt to correct the problem doesn't seem like a waste of time, though.
just a thought

For the Production and Research values dropping to 0 - did you drop into debt, or have a Treasury of less than -500 BC, right before that happened?

For taking over half of the galaxy - do you mean they colonized half the galaxy or that their cultural influence bubbles extended over half of the galaxy? The latter one wouldn't be that hard to achieve - it happens almost every game I play, except for very large galaxies. For that matter, were you playing on Small or Tiny galaxies?

And for the techtree - are you just exxagerating to show that they have researched more than they should have in comparsion to you at that difficulty level, or did they actually research high-level technology?

Well, I do know the research values reset once they get too high. Exactly how high, I dunno. But it has done it to me. In my last game I went for cultural victory, and at some point I could no longer access any of the graphs. It just stuck on one of them and I could not switch to another.

And the research was then at 429 or there abouts, when it should have been well over 3000. I would have had over 400 pretty early in the game, with all the NLC's I built.

I think I'll play another like it, and see if I can determine the max value for research, since it is usually the research graph that hoses first. But usually it will just flatline at some point (when it does go bad, it it not an every game type of thing). This is the first time I could not switch between graphs.
