Please Help! 7+ Minutes between turns??

I have a medium size universe w/ 4 AI opponents. The game started off just fine but about 30 minutes into it, it now takes 5-10 minutes... that's FIVE TO TEN MINUTES after I click end turn to get back to where I can do something.

It's driving me absolutly insane! Is there some option or setting I can change to get this time down to something resonable?

Thank you

Sounds like a system memory issue.

Then again, it could also just be the number of ships in areas you can observe. Need more information.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Sometimes just Alt-Tabbing back to the desktop and then going back into the game can help.

But it sounds like something may be taking the processor away for some reason.
Perhaps a background task is running that should not be.
Have you excluded the Gal Civ folders (both the main folders in C:\Program Files and the ones in My Documents\Games\GalCiv2) from your real-time virus scanning? That can help a great deal.

first the that you need to do is download v1.2 if you havent already. then try increasing your virtual memory to at least 1 gig (i have 2 gigs). also try to kill as many unneccessary background programs before playing. i used to have the same problem and thats what i did. however my turns didnt take that long. worst case was maybe 5 mins on a large galaxy

Actually saving the game, exiting the program and reloading worked just fine (lol.. ."reboot" worked). I agree it looks like a memory issue. But my computer should be able to handle it (AMD 4000+ w/ 2.5 gig ram). Hmm.. weird. Hasn't happened since. But good ideas in case it does. Thanks

What version are you playing? v1.1 had a major memory bug which I suffered through on a gigantic map on 512MB of RAM! Make sure you are running v1.2!

How many ships are there on the map and how complex are they? Back in March someone posted a movie quality ship module with about 1 million ploygons and was complaining about poor performance!

Prior to playing the game I disable my cable modem connection (thus cutting me off from the Internet) and then unload all my security software (e.g., anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) This backround software not ownly competes with the game for memory but also might start a scan while your playing the game.

You should also scan your computer for any viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, etc. that might be affecting performance and then defrag your harddrive.

Upon system startup, many computers load up services or programs that are never needed. Make sure your computer starts up lean. There are many sites that explain the various services and give advice as to what to disable in MSCONFIG.

I hope this helps.

dells aren't that bad. Maybe it's the processor, no memory, or wack installation. Need more info for further help.

Of course, any memory slow down can be remedied by wiping out the odd civilization every now and then.
