The New forums have arrived!

Hope you like them..

https://forums.galciv2.com/

I hang out on a lot of different websites and one of the things I have seen repeatedly come up is how people loathe the GalCiv2.com forums. They were very different in design from other forum systems.

In an attempt to try to improve that experience, we have re-written the underlying forum technology and re-designed the look to take some of the good points from other forums and our own technology and put them together.

Hope you like what you see.

We're aware of the issue with the medal tooltips. It's a bug with IE we've not yet been able to work figure out a fix for. However, we have a workaround that will likely be posted early next week.

Well, I don't know what CTRL+F5 actually changes, but the forums look great now! Before I did that, it looked like a running list of poster names and topics. I have a screen shot but I can't seem to get it to post...

Firefox loves to cache stylesheets and sometimes doesnt release the cache when it should. We've only seen this a handful of times with IE, but firefox has been a pretty big offender of that with the new forums.

New metaverse icons under our accounts? say yes!

As soon as I saw the new look, I literally said "whoa!" out loud. I didn't even need to put effort towards it or anything, my visual receptors just took over of my auditory channel and made me say it.

Needless to say, it's beautiful. I am in love.

Muuuuuuch better! Takes the pain out of posting around here. Well done!

Still, Opera doesn't seem to display the Metaverse medals anymore... It looks fine in Firefox, but with the newest Opera, I can't see 'em....

(edit) nevermind, wrong interpretation of a post :p

by the way, is there a way for a user to delete self made posts? (like this one for instance)

I'll have a look at the Opera issue and see if I can't find a fix. We switched to a new AJAX implementation which is incredibly more stable, reliable and easier to work with. However, seems to disagree with Opera. I won't dismiss the medals issue with Opera, but I can't promise a fix in any amount of time.

For those following this thread, have a look below the 'Recent Forum Posts' section on the forum home page. You'll see a new 'View Today's Posts' link there which will take you to a page listing new posts and newly replied-to posts for the day. As per usual all times are EST.

Can I assume that Safari is NOT supported, as it was not listed as one of the browsers above? If I use Safari, there is no reply window. I can use Explorer for Mac - as I am now - however, the use of this browser is also limited as I cannot post a thread without getting an error message.

Correct. Safari is not supported.

maybe a bug with the forum, dont know if anyone reported this already...

I just wrote a long post for the B5-mod thread (which was top of the list right below the stickies when I started to write). anyway, when I sent my post it was added to a different thread (custom portaits or something...) which was not the top thread with the B5 thread right below it.
it seems the post was directed to the #1 thread instead to the thread B5-mod... ^^
