Pet peaves

What bugs you about this great game ?

Love the game, but in an effort to get more things fixed before more features, what bugs you about about the current game ?

For me :
1) Quirkyness of when you fleet up. Sometimes the ship focus doens't go to the new fleet, sometimes it does.
2) Fix the Thalains !! They don't do crap. Even on incredible.
3) Fix planetary management. I'm tired of seeing 5 farms on a planet. I'm tired of seeing a planet with no factories.
4) Allow the AIs to see how good soldiering is...(this would make the game a lot harder longer sometimes lol)
5) Give an AI the idea that researching two weapons is a good idea. And as soon as war starts start revamping to beat current foe. Not 30 turns later.
6) Improve the governors. The current governor system is completely inadequate for anything above a large galaxy.

1) My #1 pet peeve is... people who misspell 'peeves'!

(I'm sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself...)

2) The fact that I had to open IE to be able to use the smiley icons. (I'm not flaming the forums, let's not go there again - just a peeve.)

3) Thalans, Drath AND Terrans all grab a few systems, then stop colonizing, and seem to stop researching, too. I've started calling them the Axis of Speedbumps.

4) The double whammy of the save-load-no-production problem and the zero bonus issue that happens when an imrovement finishes building on the same turn as you finish researching the next level. i.e., if you are building a Basic Farm that reaches completion on the same turn that you finish researching Xeno Farms, you get zero food production bonus... until you reload the game, which fixes that problem, but then you still lose a turns' worth of production.

5) Auto Select and Auto Center (entire map moves to center on the ship you selected). They finally removed Auto Focus, for which I am thankful. However, the two remaining autofoci still drive me apesh*t on larger maps.

Up until they made the mod for things I dislike the game for its technology chart in having to create phasor 1-7 when you should only have one phasor etc.. I wish they made it simplified like master of orion 2 and have a chart diagram like that of Civ 4. I wish the mod was a little bit better in its setup so you could use easy drop down menus to create what you want instead of notepad etc.. but for what it's worth it's better then nothing. The only other thing besides the AI and Diplomacy and espionage which I can say isn't very good(however they say some of these things will be implented on the next patch 1.3 or on avatar) I am saying that the game should give us is the ability to build whatever on the planet with unlimted spaces, only being able to pick an choose I think is kind of a waste buildings, anyone else agree?

I'd like to be able to choose to build obsolete buildings if I wanted to.

I think it'd add some more depth and strategy to the game, and to planet management in particular.

I know StarDock would have to find a good to let the AI use it effectively, but Brad's pretty good at figuring stuff like that out, I'm confident he could do it well.

1) Let's see... yeah, Drath/Terran/Thalan wimpiness. The Terrans and Drath were once fairly tough, but after patches their new AI seems dimwitted. You could argue that the Drath focus on deviousness and manipulation of the galaxy, but while espionage is as undeveloped as it is, they really should go out and blow stuff up. Meanwhile, we monkeys are infamous for our imperialistic tendencies on members of our own species... I can hardly see a hyperdrive equipped humanity being much different with other species, really. As for the Thalans? You'd think bugs would be harder to exterminate...

2) Again, it's been said, but you should be able to build obsolete buildings. Alternatively, the starting social production for a colony should go up signifigantly with each new factory tech, so you can get an industrial base started more effectively.
3) Weird complaint... why are the Korx considered "militaristic?" ("Militaristic" meaning the thing that gives you an automatic minus with the race in diplomacy.) Yeah, they're evil, but killing your customers hardly seems like good business sense. It's not directly connected to their evil natures, since those paranoid Torians are also "militaristic."

Up until they made the mod

I take it you mean when they released the game? Because that's how long I've been doing major mods. (Major meaning Dialogue, tech, and race)

To the op:

1) Agree.

2) Exploit your ******* bonuses you insectoid gimps! Gah!
Although when you can select the behaviour of the AI, this might improve (telling the AI to play to it's strengths more often can only be a good thing)

3) I personally don't have this problem, except when I make it obvious I'm going to invade. Normally there's nothing at all wrong, but they do seem to make their planets worthless before an invasion

4) Try modding the value for soldiering higher. I like the AI exploiting my weaknesses and blocking my strengths. Higher soldiering, high economy, and multiple defences would seriously slow me down.

5) It originally did, but that meant it tried to research a LOT of weapons. It calculates whether it's worth sticking to their weapon v the worst enemies defences, and if it thinks it is it will stay with the weapon.

6) I don't use the governers myself, so won't comment here.

Maybe part of the problem with the five farms idea is to make farms more useful, perhaps make them + Pop Growth some as well?

1. I wish to reiterate on my own post and tell more of what I would like in this game as way of technology, I hate the fact that I never get to the doom ray gun because I have already wasted to many hours just tryng to get the dang gravitation weapon that is how I always win this game, so I would mod but it takes too long to go through all that mess so I don't even bother, so Im left with misery!! hehe (by the way Im even talking huge universes here, I mean you think Id have it by the time I destroy the galaxy but things take to long to research in my opinion, when they should be faster like the post above said when you build one building you should be gaining extra!!

2. I hate the fact that you can't even understand what technologies it requires to get further into space it took me forever to figure that stinkin mess out. The guides with this game aren't very good. I'm hoping for a future "right click" scenario or menu to the side to explain things better on everything, especially on stuff like what the heck is a chaos map?!

3. Speaking of the AI or maybe just game concepts, I hate the fact that you can build these lamo space stations with constructers anywhere..I don't beleive that should be possible, in every game I play the computer has got hundreds of them. It will place them even in your empire, yet when I play it I only look to put them on the ones that show up in space like morale or influence. I guess I just don't understand how you can place these things without those resources first out in space.

4. I want better espionage, I beleieve above all other stuff this would enhance the game signifacantly. Don't get me wrong the game is still fun its just repetative, that's the biggest fault in the game, not a whole lot of changes from medium to gigantic that I have noticed, maybe a little harder on harder modes....any ways those are my burners, whats yours..?

Send a constructor out where you want, then when it gets there select it and hit the Construct button. Pick which kind of starbase you want to build (you can build bases that boost production/trade nearby, ones that give bonuses to ships in the area, and ones that amplify your influence), then send more constructors to upgrade it into a massive beast of a thing.
