Why can't I colonize this planet? (Newbie)

I'm trying to colonize a planet called Weber 1 (class 10), not owned by another race. It's the last avaiable planet and I've tried with three diffent colony ships, no luck. What am I missing? I'm at the normal level with two alien races. Anybody run into this?

are you sure it doesn't have a foriegn race's symbol on it? and are there colonists on the ships?

also if the planet is out of range it won't work and a message will pop up saying that its out of range anyway.

I haven't had any problems with not bieng able to colonize a planet, other than someone else beating me to it.

did you try right clicking the planet or using the arrow keys to get to the planet, difficulty won't prevent you from colinizing planets and races don't do that either so both of those facts are irrelavent.

Once I designed a colony ship, and realised later I'd actually given them construction modules instead of colony modules. Because I right click the blue square I didn't notice that there were no people on board.

The planet is in my territory. I loaded my colony ship with 500. The system also has a size 4 planet that I cannot colonize as well. I did need life support on the colony ship to reach it. I also have a starbase right next to it. I don't see any message about it being too far as I've now got it surronded with 3 colony ships. I just dunno??????

Sounds like a home system for another race. Every home system has a class 10 (or higher) and a class 3/4. Which means it's owned by someone else, perhaps a minor. Click on the planet and see what the details are at the bottom of the screen. What does it say?

When I click on the sun it says:
5 planets
2 habital
0 colonized
planet owners:

Nothing indicating otherwise when I click on the planet'

I saved, and did a reload, this system is off limits to me for some unknown reason. Don't really want to quit, as I have had 2 unfinished games before. They were due to mistakes on my part, not anything wrong with the game. I'm sure I understand this elementary process of :
1. Build a colony ship
2. Launch it
3. Populate it
4. Get to the planets before the aliens
5. R click for information
6. If you can't do something ... research it

Did I run into a rare bug?
How do I let Stardock know?

actually you should have grabbed the debug.err before you reload. although if you encounter it again, also post up the debug.err

I've never encountered this bug, so its probably a one in a thousand rarity bug.

It's not a bug per-se. The ship shows up as a colony ship when I mouse over it. When I looked in the main viewer I saw the construct button was depressed. Didn't know how that came about, so I upgraded to colony ship and problem solved. Guess I need more time to get comfortable with the mechanics. Thanks for the posts.

The main screen should have read "Constructor"

and probably should have named it a colonizer or something along the lines of that for the colony ships, which may help.

Maybe the saved game (since it appears to continue to happen after saving/restarting) should be sent to a dev for analysis. Anyone have the email address that earthdrum can send the save game to?

Email it to support. support at stardock.com I believe.

U know, I've got a probrem with moving a ship/fleet: when it is selected, I RClick on a sector and it does not move and moves are at max ('Moves left: 5/5')

Maybe it is the same.

Was this a core ship or your own design? When you mouse over it, it shows you the name given to it during design, not a description of what it does.
