Disappearing troops

I was at war with the Altarians and I temporarily (or so I thought) garrisoned 6 troop transports on a small planet that I'd just conquered. I launched the first transport successfully before I noticed what was going on, but the other five are stuck: there is no more population on the host planet so there is no way to send them to another planet to replenish the troops. But most importantly, where did my troops go??? They didn't show up in the population when my transports stopped there and they aren't on the transports. They're just... gone. I had no idea this would happen, is this a bug in my game or has anyone else had this happen to them?

They will die if there is not enough food production to support them.

If the planet did not have a farm, the most it can hold is 5 billion.
And if you put more than 5b on the planet, the next turn the population will reduce itself to 5b.

When they landed on the world they became civilians and subject to the rules affecting population on the planet including pop caps and morale growth reductions and increases.

If you put them down on a high PQ world with room for pop no problem, if you put them on a small world that is over its pop cap or with low morale, then zap. The population hides from taxes and is no longer available.

Not sure if it would happen in just one turn though.

It does happen in one turn... But unless they were 5 billion transports I am not sure how he emptied the planet with one ship. All planets have 5 bill min pop don't they?

Happened to me once. I parked 3 of my megainvaders (able to carry 4k troops each) in orbit of a class 6 world... I guess most of my soldiers took the moonwalk after one round.

I suppose that this will be what I'll do next time. I just didn't know. But on the bright side, the planet has enough pop. now that I can launch the ships. Yay
Thanks for the info, I didn't know what had happened.
