HUGE OMISSION

Why is there absolutely no speech audio when you converse with other species?
Just look at K.O.T.O.R., they could have at least done that!

KOTOR and GalCiv are really different animals when it comes to the implementation of speech audio. In KOTOR, there are options for responses which the developers can provide speech audio. In GalCiv, the possibilities are practically endless for speech that is initiated by the player. It would be a much more time intensive thing to do with little return. This is why speech audio is not present in turn based strategy games. (It is not in Civilization IV either.)

By comparing KOTOR and GC2 I meant that you can have ALIEN language-not english so you always have speech no matter how much dialog you have because you can't understand the speech itself!!! In other words specific alien language is in a loop.

Please watch your language, this is a public (family-safe) forum.

As to not having speech, bear in mind you're not required to play humans (a lot of people don't), so what alien language are the devs supposed to loop when talking to a Terran AI? It's hardly a problem that there's no 'blahblahblah, blahblah, blah!' running in the background as you look at the diplomacy screen.

Hardly a "huge omission"

Really not an omission at all.

Besides, why have a universal translator if there will be unintelligible language going on in the background?

that's pretty much what Moo3 did.

In other words specific alien language is in a loop.

in moo3, they went one better than a loop. all the aliens have their own sound files, split up into friendly, neutral, and angry catagories, and the same with their animations. so depending on the mood of the ambassador, say "angry", the game strings together a few of the angry sound and vidoe tracks, and there's (badly) translated text at the both.

so it can be done. it has been done.

just another of the unique moo3 features that folks forget about, due to how badly the game release was botched...

That would be an okay feature for most races. However, as previously mentioned there would be a problem with humans since we can understand them and you can't loop language that way (Although pedxing had a good idea for that). Also there is a problem nobody has mentioned with two of the other races. I would hate having high pitched bug chattering and clicking or metalic sounding robot voices. Those two sounds get annoying too quickly.

Actually, the Thalans have no audible form of comminication. And the Yor would assumably use wireless networking (radio waves are far more efficient and longer ranged than sound waves!).
