Adding ship styles

I know I asked before, and I read the answer, but I totally forgot what it was, and where it was posted.

SO here is the question,

We have 5+1 ship styles right now, and I would like to add unique styles, how do I make it more, say 10, or 15 or whatever...

I would use whatever the Galtrek and Gal5 peeps have converted, and whatever else I can find.

I do not want to substitute, but add to the styles that already exist.

The bump for attention.

AFAIK the interface does not yet support more than five displayed in the race customization screen. However you can add new ones by simply adding models with the appropriate prefix, and setting a race to the new number (and write-protecting the file so the game cannot set it to one of the core styles).

Step 1: Get the models

Step 2: Change the models .x file( or whatever it has) to S6(or whatever style number it is)_Tiny or small of medium etc._0 or 1 or 2 or 3

STep 3: to use it in game, change the race config to use that style. For a custom race, go into my documents/my games/ galciv2/ and find its raceconfig file. Then find the ship style tag, and change the number to 6 or 7 or whatever, to change the main races stlye go into gal civ2/data/english (or is it just data? i forgot.) then open it and look for your races ship tag. Then change it to the style you want. Got all that?

If you use S99_ it can be used by all races.

So, basically I have to edit a save game?

I am unable to permenantly add 5 more styles, so I could have a total of 10+1?

You can add as many as there are races, you just have to hard-code it to a race (can't make them selectable in game, sadly). You don't need to edit the save games, just mod the raceconfig files and set the read-only flag (right click the file in explorer, go to properties, click the read only box and hit ok).

hmm.. so, if I have a custom race I can hardcode a specific ship style to them, but I can't add it to the genertal pool so everyone can pick from it?

Ions post basically covers everything.

I'm assuming you know how to use mod folder properly, and have downloaded some models.

You need files for each of the hull types (at least one for Cargo, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large Huge) with the file structure as S#_Cargo.X, where # is the style number you want to use. 0-5 are used already, and 99 and 100 are for all races, so use something like 6. If you want to use the games default hulls and mix and match a bit, you can find them all in the /gfx/models directory.

The rest of the files for a downloaded model don't have to be renamed but must be kept with the .X file in the /gfx/models directory of the mod.

To set the style, go to the raceconfig for the race you want to use that style (\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2, and set the ShipStyle tag to the number you have used. You'll need to set it the file read-only to stop the game changing it.

If you want to set an AI race do exactly the same but to the file RaceConfig or MapRaceInfo (not sure which seeing as they both have the tag) in the /data directory. You ought to create a copy of these files for your mod folder and not change the default files.

If you have any problems, can you say what you have done and where the problem seems to be.

Update:

Okay, it worked. It was alot of work, but I got it working. Funny thing is... now that I have it working, the added ships look so good, that I have to spend even more time doing up my ships to match those. This was fun.

Guys, that you for your help.
