Sound problems after updating

Hiya-

I just updated my copy of GalCiv2 with the latest retail patch last night; after I rebooted and went to go play it, I noticed a great deal of 'skipping' (and in some cases, 'stuck/repeating') audio both during the intro monologue, and music during the game setup screens.

Has anybody else encountered this? Is there something I should tweak to fix it? I didn't have this issue prior to the update, so I believe it's something to do with that.

Thanks in advance!

Could you paste the contents of your debug.err file?

I have experienced the same problem.

Mine has done that since 1.0. It is always during heavy hard drive/processor usage, as when encountered when beginning a game or loading a saved game. It usually clears up after a short time. It does not effect game play once it clears up, but until then things can be a little choppy. And once it clears up it usually does not happen again during that gaming session.

The debug.err files won't show anything relating to this, by the way. I have checked mine over pretty carefully looking for anything that might give a clue.

I have noticed choppy sound also. If a debug.err is required, i could probably find it. Also, shouldn't this post be in a bug notes folder?

You could try playing with your audio acceleration settings.  We updated to the latest version of the Miles Sound System with 1.2, so that's probably why you're having trouble now.

Well, as I said, I have been having the same thing occur since 1.0. In fact, it may not be quite as bad since you went to Miles.

Are there any optimizations you could suggest? I really do not want to turn down the acceleration settings, but sometimes little things like having a particular audio codec as #1 priority can make a difference.

Yep, the sound was fine until I installed the update patch. Now, the introduction glitches like a scratched cd.

Ok, I just lowered the sound card acceleration by one notch and it fixed the problem. It no longer skips or glitches.

I dug this up with search here on the forum, I dont see any resolution to it It drives me insane. It is like having a favorite band, but the only CD you have of them skips like no tomorrow, makes it unplayable.

I have made sure my SB Audigy is up to date and not Accelerated, didn't make any improvements.

Here is my debug and stuff:

This is the first thing that I would look at. Also:
I just lowered the sound card acceleration by one notch and it fixed the problem. It no longer skips or glitches

I use Audigy myself, and haven't had any problems, even with full acceleration. I am by no means an expert on these matters, but this should get you started until someone else comes along. Good luck.
