Can you edit the 'CORE' ships?

I was looking into completey modding my game, and can't seem to find out how to edit the 'core' ships.

For example, if I was to create the Romulan Empire (which is relatively easy to do), how can I make sure that the AI builds say...a warbid hull ship in place of the core dreadnaught design?

Some help if you can give.

Many Thanks.

I figured out how to edit and delete the core ships but it's kind of tedious because of the way gc2 does core ships. If you *really* want to bother, I'll explain it in a modding thread.

This would be useful to know. I'd like to delete all the core designs, except for the original colony ship and survey ship that you begin the game with.

Personally, I just update them and save under new names, but I believe there are Star Trek ship mods out there somewhere. I know I've seen discussions about them.

If you save the model file with the same name as the hull for whatever ship you want to replace in the mods folder, that will work.  I linked to my modding docs in the sticky thread, and that should really tell you all you need to know.

Hey CariElf - thanks, that's one hell of a guide.

It has allowd me to mess around with many things.

However, I'm still having trouble gietting rid of the CORE ships and replacing them with the models I want.

I would appreciate if anyone can write a quick guide on how to replace say: a human dreadnaught with a mod created ship.

Ahhhhh...ok.

I got it now.

...

However, in the process I screwed some things up trying.

Can anyone send me a clean GC2Ships.xml file? I don't want to reinstall and a lot of the AI's ships are now invisible.

..

Big thanks as well to the creators of the Star Trek ships - it really is excellent work, my game is starting to look like an updated BOTF.

Just as a warning, actually removing core ships from the gc2ships.xml can cause the game to crash. A slightly detailed explaination can be found at http://www.gc2builder.com/vtopic-25.html The first post explains making your own core ships, while the second post is about removing and changing. This was done up before v1.1, so it doesn't have any information on using the mod folder.

If you want the AI to use new models without replacing the game's models then look at http://www.gc2builder.com/vtopic-76.html "Core Ships" are really only for the player's use and maps that start with ships on them (like most of the campaign). The AI uses shipcfg files to determine what models are used. Again, the link doesn't provide infomation on mod folders.

in v1.2 I can edit the core ships, like tarnsport, avatar, battleship and more
