Who united the Earth ?

Must have been the french.

Think the French must have united the world in GC2. Lets see :
1) Earthlings foolishly rely on diplomacy.
2) Never seen them do anything too militarily significant. (even on incredible)
3) Slow to revamp thier military. (probably all AIs fail here but oh well.)

Think it would be funny to explain the backstory a little more in this area, or maybe mod it so the humans are distinctly french...

Not only that they gaveaway hyper drive. The greatest strategic discovery in the history of the entire Metaverse and they just gave it away. I mean even to the Drengin? Here you go, come on over for a visit. No, no, don't bother bringing your own death furnaces, you can use our pizza ovens.

Yeah, ok. Admittedly that's probably got to be the most boneheaded thing I've heard of.

Definitely sounds French.

I always wondered why it said "The reckless Humans" ect.. on the back of the game box.

I always thought they were stupid for giving away hyper drive instead of taking over the universe.

Well...if they didn't the game would be a lot less fun...or a lot less...even...wouldn't even be here if they didn't give it away...

if it was americans we would of traded it for alien beer. the british would of sold it. the russians would of traded it for bread and the japanese would of just sent whole automized ships over to explore the galaxy for everyone. must of been the french

The Canadians United Earth, through pacafist beliefs and .... got the entire world so involved in the 2007 Sponsership scandal results .... that everyone went "Awww" and became happy teletubby friends!

Well, according to the backstory, the humans believed at the time that any race capable of space travel would have given up their violent militaristic ways, including the Drengin. My guess is most nations, including the French and Americans, thought it was a good idea to give away hyperdrive.

Or they could have believed that giving away hyperdrive techknowledgy would have given them a jumpstart to diplomatic aproval; which from what I've seen in GC2 it hasn't

Just because forums generally tend to have flamers doesn't mean you have to be one of them as well.

The story is that the humans "gave" hyperdrive away, but the truth is that it got leaked onto the Internet.

As I remember it the private company that developed it (imagine that) sold it to everybody before anyone in government realized its military signifigance. It wasn't a weapon, after all.

Not quite true. It was on a computer with Microsoft Security works 2525 software protecting the data and it got hacked by a 1st generation Yor unit.

Unfortunately for the Yor and fortunately for earth, the Yor unit had to install the windows 2525 operating system to read the Data.

Which is why the Yor had to upgrade to 2nd generation units shortly after for various licencing and hard drive space reasons delaying the implementation of the technology long enough for earth to licence the hyperdrive to the other races. Thus earth still gets credit for sharing the technology in an open format.

LOL. The French. You could mod it where their leader is Napoleon.

No, not Napoleon; DeGaulle. That way they could surrender and still say that they were keeping up the fight.

Tous les etoiles sont Francais!

Kona would come to Earth every season... to hunt poodles!
...Even though Napoleon wasn't born in France...

Would be even better if it was Napoleon Dynamite.

The Terrans would all wear moon boots and say "Dang" everytime A Drengin ship appeared on the scanner.

Of course, it would also be tradition for your uncle to come over and eat all your steak.

I'd first think the W. Bush administration conquered the world. But of course giving away the tech--that's true it's not them and their administration hates diplomacy, especially the UN. Their ambassadar is Michael Bolton who admits he is anti-united nations.

Then there's the illuminati, which of course are French, so maybe that's it--they already control the world already. However, there's some kind of unclarity between illuminati vs. jews.

Then there's the Mexicans conquered the world through a cultural victory (they're already doing it in the USA)

a mexican mod thats what needs to be done. your reproduction rate is 300% and your manufacturing is 200%. (no offensiveness intended)

You do know that immigrants come from other places besides Mexico, don't you? IMO, though immigrants (legal and otherwise) put a burden on our educational and health care systems, without people willing to do the work that native-born people aren't, the U.S. would be about dead in the water. I've spent time in Arizona and I know what I'm talking about.

That said, delta leader, in your mod the completion date for all starships and planetary improvements would have to be "MaƱana". Permanently.

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw in the local newspaper. Under the drawing it said "If Captain Picard were REALLY French." And the drawing was of Picard aiming a phasor at a creature with a quote "Set phasors to appease!"

No, the Terran Alliance is definately an American thing. We're the only ones who'd be so smug that we'd conquer the planet and then call it an alliance.

Actually, I think Microsoft will conquer the Earth financially and then rule the world through Windows and its endless updates, patches, bugs.

I love the fan story posted somewhere around here that had a Drengin spy steal the plans from Earth and send it on a diplomatic channel to all the civilizations when he about to be captured.

Giving away the technology may be as simple as giving away a key component that had significant conaequences like British jet engines to the Russians after WWII that became the basis for the post war Migs.
