How many months/years does your average game take?

How far up the research tree do you tend to get?

I play on Masochistic and I read about people with weapons at the end of the tech tree but I just don't ever get that far into the tech tree. It is a rare game that I will get much past 3 levels of weapons or armor and I rarely get all the econ/research bonus' researched. On a long game I might get 'eyes of the universe' but I don't think I have ever researched all the levels of ship size. I usually win about the time I am thinking of researching large ships. I am a warmonger in my games, I don't usually start the wars but I always finish them. In game time I rarely see a third galactic vote and I am pretty sure I have never seen a 4th. How far into the tech tree do you get before you win?

About 3 years on average on suicidal, medium map size. I am like yourself, I have never researched the entire tech tree. Have had the black hole gun and doom rays in two different games and they are nice...

To see more of the tech tree try turning tech speed up to very fast, with tech trading on. U get to see most of it then. Playing on a bigger map helps too (I can't as my machine is one year from next upgrade), sigh...

depends on the galaxy size. on medium i usually play for 7 years (im one of those set up the economy before going to war players). as for the tech tree, it depends on what my goals are. normally i would get as far as disruptors, but there was this one time when i was going for a tech victory and i was able to research doom ray at that point i decided to wipe out all the remaining civs ^_^

My games don't last long because I resign at the point I realize that I can't ever win, and that's been most of the time so far. The turning point was when I realized that you can't EVER fall behind in research. Lose that contest and you lose it all. So now I build plenty of research centers and always trade techs whenever I can.

In real life a game takes me about 100 hours on a large map.

Usually around 5-6 game years on the level I play at, and I have the technology rate set to normal. If I make the tech tree faster, and if I play militaristically, it can last around 3 years because I quickly research weapons and then blow everyone out of the water.

Playing on tough Gigantic maps my fastest game was 3 years and my longest 7 with most going five years. Almost always hit the end of one or more weapon techs never used to go past medium but with 1.2 its proving to be nessary as the small class do not have the staying power.

Current game is on painful 3rd year and Im up to disruptors and qautaum missles with the Huge ship size.

I've been playing loooong games. Crippling level gigantic universe. I lay low building and building using diplomacy to keep others off my back. I use cultural conquest to flip planets. When I finish the tech tree and I have 50 or 60 plants running full tilt with as many factories as they can hold, I quickly build an utterly massive and extremely powerful armada all with huge hulls running in max fleets. Once my armada is built and placed, I clear the map in about 10 turns. They can't touch me and the kill is highly rewarding. Takes 10 to 15 years. I can't get this to work above Crippling though. One of these days I'll have to take a crack at the short game war monger style.

Usually takes six years for me on Huge/suicidal, playing as a Good civilization. It takes a lot to stay in the game early maintaining/building my economy and still staying level with the others when it comes to researching techs. Once a race or two starts turning hostile, I start building armadas of medium hull ship and just start plowing through nonstop until I achieve a military victory.

I play custom race, suicidal, gigantic maps, normal research rate, and 9 opponents. Been doing a tech victory around mid 2229 in game ( 4.5 years ), I usually have taken out 2 or 3 of the other civs and victory is pretty much assured so I just finish it up with a tech victory. I do the missiles for weapons and have only seen the blackhole eruptor once and never got to using it ( out of 3 games ). My current game just started 2228 and i am at the point i usually just do the tech victory but think i'm going to play this one out and hope to finish it around 6-1-2228. But I did "controll n" when generating map till i got a great homeworld ( a +300% production, a +700% research and a +100% research tiles ) -- really just wanted a +300% production and a +300% research tiles but got those first and just couldn't pass em up.

To the guy who thinks you got to keep up in tech -- I am usually a little behind but it hasn't held me back. I only had photon torpedoes 3 and just started attacking an opponent who had anti-matter torpedoes 3. I did get lucky and get the anti- matter torpedoe tech on the first world i conquered from him but don't think it was really needed -- i've attacked opponents who had the tech advantage before and plowed em under. I always try to have the speed advantage, currently have large ships that have base missile damage around 48 and base speed of about 26pc.
