Am I The Only One Bent On Galactic Dominaton?

Im i the only one? I dont play a game without the settings set to "Crush Those Who Oppose You". For one the the takes longer time (if you want to go slow and research and that stuff). And you dont have to worry that the AI wins through Research victory (not that they ever would do against me:P), Influence, Diplomatic victory!

i also like to crush enemies, but I also like to be able to ally up and trade, if only to make sure they're useless when I wipe them out.

Oftentimes I'll make sure civs surrender to me, and those who don't, well...die

I hate trade myself... Never use it... Waste of time on precious techs i think ^^

I like trade because it's often useful, but it's quite possible to get a good economy on the middle levels without, which is very good for the galactic conquering type because it allows you to have an economy that's not depending on you being at peace with certain other races.

rofl i trade because at some point it just becomes exponential. if you manage to get trade goods, and have a good position between a few races, you can make so much bloody cash with trade it's not even funny. In my massive game I'm playing now, i've lowered taxes by 20% because still made 700bc/turn in profits, and I spend about a fifth of my revenue on military. with the profits, i simply hurry construction when i can.

Trading with a couple races(the ones most compatible with you) can be quite useful. and then, once you took out those who oppose you, turn on them and crush them by barely stretching your hand over their territory XD

at that point citizens wouldn't care about u heightening taxes, if you play it smart, they'll love you, (i have 96% approval at a 45% tax rate) And choosing good, then just annihilating everyone also works to give you bonuses in the social and defense aspects.

I kinda act as a Judiciar, one who'll force good on the galaxy simply by wiping out all evil races, while converting neutral ones and forcing other good races to surrender to you.

It's surprisingly efficient

I'm all about the Galactic Domination. And of course I use trade to increase revenue for my militaristic expansion. I find that it is best to trade with the minor races, they are also good for tech trading. Because thay are only a minor race you don't have to worry about them conquering your planets and can trade techs you wouldn't normally trade to get the techs you don't have. And once they have outlived their usefulness, crush them.

not if the other races already have those tecs u just have to be careful of what tecs you trade and calculate who it will help and hinder

I usually do a tech victory myself but only to save time -- by the time i
can do a tech victory, i got the game won. I've only played gigantic maps and to finish off all the opponents would just take forever. Was sort of concerned that one of the computer players would go for a tech win but none of em did.
Even on my Suicidal game. I'm pretty sure 1 of the computr plasyers could have beat me to a tech victorty in my game at suicidal level too -- Think i remember reading the developers say the comp players are programmed to play to win -- programmed for oher things that just bring your demise i think.

My first game on a gigantic map was Military Domination only - all other victory settings and tech trading disabled. Unfortunately my current-soon-to-be-eliminated-enemies always surrendered to another race, which became the new target (so i had no hard choices to choose from .

btw. i was surprised that gigantic map is 18x18 instead of 16x16 as written in that rather unhelpful manual.

Economy: i had no real money shortages except one times as i purchased an upgrade for my oldest ship for half-million BC . At this stage i had no need for traderoutes anyway - 70%tax @ Ø98%approval on more than 100 worlds

I really wish the game could group several fleets together just for movement - it can get pretty tiresome to move several dozen fleets around.

K. lets start the dick-comparing contest of the highest number of space marines on duty at same time in assault transports : 90 billions super-evil-soldiers

Conquest is fun, but trade, diplomacy, and research are much more rewarding, in my opinion. Sure, wiping out a few civilizations takes skill, but it takes even more skill to be a friend than to be an enemy.

I've been playing with everything unchecked, conquest victory only. I think that offers the most challenge and yields the highest scores. I've won games through the other methods, but get the most satisfaction from a conquest win. I have tech trading checked because sometimes that can give you an edge. When a minor steals techs from a major, you can trade for them without giving the majors any advantage. Even when going for the conquest, you still have to use diplomacy quite a bit. For instance, forming an alliance with a race that's just about to get crushed by another race will often put their assets in your lap when they surrender. Also, you need to maintain a level of diplomacy to keep aggressive races off your back until you're ready to fight them. So, diplomacy is not necessarily out the window. That's good because diplomacy is an interesting part of the game and I enjoy it.

I only use trade to keep civs off my back, until I can destroy them.

Waiting for planets to flip. takes forever and drives me crazy.
I just invade them. Much more satisfying.

I usually play huge or gigantic maps, so winning by conquest is just dead boring. Usual pattern is to wipe out the first race or two who are foolish enough to attack me, then ally with whoever's left. One of the problems with these sort of games is that the time between it being obvious you're going to win and *actually* winning can be pretty huge (Rome Total War anyone?!) It's nice to have the research and alliance victory options to speed things up.

I Always use galactic domination! Other victories are to easy! Like being friendly with every race is easy! Just Build up your economic and give them money... thats all it takes

I have to agree with Random50. Conquests are pretty boring during the second "half" of the conquest because you already know you are going to win. The amount of time to kill off your remaining "friends" is time that I'd rather spend on another game whether it be GC2, CivIV or WoW. Yes, I still play WoW and CivIV. I usually do political wins which nightboy42 points out is easy but by the time I win via political, I'm usually dominating already.

The Meese are a very peaceful race, until attacked.

Until then, it is build up the economy and do extensive research.

Once the gauntlet is thrown down however, the Meese will not stop until every enemy planet is wiped out. Then it is back to making money and discovering new things.

Alliance and tech victories are most common for me.

95% percent of my Victories are Domination

Really, the hardest victory is cultural. No one here can deny it. Honestly, I think Diplomacy is the easiest, because all it takes is a few decent techs and some cash to trade and then the alliance. I've been able to win diplomatic victories in almost the same amount of time it takes me to research to Alliances.

I like Cultural the most because in my mind, it is the most realistic form of domination, and the most concrete.
