How is the military score calculated?

Spin control center aside, is it ship hit points, ship defense, hull size, weapons? What exactly does it?

I think it is scored by how many enemy ships you destroy with your military and the strength of your military

But how do they measure "strength of your military "?

From the Gal Civ 2 manual page 50:
"Military compaares the value of all that civilization's ships with an attack rating (the exact formula is attack rating + defense rating + hit points/10)"

It's either displayed attack strength of all ships or attack and defense strength.

Unless you have spin control.

heard rumors you may need your ships in orbit to get counted at the end. (probably to stop you from cheesing with 16 overlapping military bases covering all your ships...)

For some reason arming starbases does not boost this

I don't understand it either, from may last game for example:

Enemy Ships Destroyed: 109
Personal Ships Destroyed: 8
Most Powerful Ship: Tranquillia Fleet 36
Enemy Soldiers Killed: 4 Billion

SCORE: 767

The one who got the highest had:

Enemy Ships Destroyed: 0
Personal Ships Destroyed: 0
Most Powerful Ship: Mining Starbase 20
Enemy Soldiers Killed: 0 Million

SCORE: 1314

I lost maybe 4 ships total, the only thing i can think of is that he had a higher rating the first 3/4th of the game, while i had very high near the end, is the score only based on the average of the military rating per turn? It seems a bit strange to me that you can be the best in military without firing a shot ever...
