Is there a specific tutorial...?

That will tell me things like exactly what a 'rally point' is and the specific uses of them?

Also, when you wish to upgrade the entire class of ship that will be built from then on... Do you go to the shipyard modify and save?

And how do you get it to stop building ships?

I've read the manual and can't find anything specific. Can you help a new guy out.

Yes, there is, go to the "Tutorials" section of your game's main menu.

I don't know, I always sell off my old ships to allies and buy new ones when I want to upgrade.

And how do you get it to stop building ships?
Select "Nothing" on the list from which you originally selected the ship now being built.

You have raised several good points here Citizen The Singer.

Rally points allow an automated method to move ships to a designated location
for advanced fleet operations, such as planet invasions or Starbase defense.

For ship upgrades the correct method is to modify in the shipyard and SAVE.
Then you can select which ships to upgrade to the saved type.

To force a planets Starport to stop building ships, go to the shipyard and
select "Nothing" as the ship type. It will be the top most selection in any
group, that is All, Core or User.

I hope this helps,
Good luck and good hunting.

Also, if you don't wish your starport to keep building the same type of ship (in other words, want to do one ship at a time rather than a full run) then you can turn off the option to "Continue Building Same Ship Until Cancelled" (or something similar).

You can select a single ship class you want to upgrade and when you click 'upgrade' and it brings you to the screen that lets you pick what you want to upgrade it to, check the box 'upgrade all ships of this class' that's in the top left corner of the update screen. This will update every ship in your fleet of the same class.
