A game called Eve

very cool

Has anyone here played a game called Eve online? I have been playing for a few days and I must say it is a great experience. It can get quite detailed and involved but if you want the feeling of unending space and want to carve out your own little part in it...this is it. It has actually taken time away from my Gal Civ II playing time!

I have 2 accounts on Eve atm. The first couple of months of experience were great. Spent a couple months in 0.0 space and went broke with all the loss of ships. I still login to change my skills, but dont really play for real anymore.

Its lacking content. Developers of the game basically state that its a 'pvp' game. and thats their response for the lack of content. But its all good, i'm glad you like the game. If you need any startup cash, put Frumph on your friends list and I can float you a million isk or so.

Yes, I played. It is absolutely gorgeous and fun for just a short time. It gets tedious quickly.

I played Eve Online for 2 years...great experience..met ppl from all over the world and it changed my gaming experience in ways single player games will never do.

Playing it at the moment. 3 accts and lots of friends.
It has plenty of content, with a market almost completely player driven.
It is by far the best mmorpg I have played.

0.0 is not for the faint of heart, or those who don't have an easy way to get iskies. Detorid is my home in 0.0, while a constellation in Domain is my empire home (low sec constellation).

Here is probably the best bit of advice for anyone in a system below .5 security, "Don't use it if you can't afford to lose it." You can have just as much fun in a frigate as a battleship.

If you like stuff like that, but don't want to do the Multi Player online Pay Per month thing. I suggest checking out X3. I didn't know much about Eve then I went to the website, sounds neat but seems just like X3 without the Online stuff. I'm sure Eve is more intense since you face Humans, unlike X3 wich is Single Player.

Aggiekev,

Worst I have been in so far is a .4. I fly a Frigate at the moment and am trying to convert it to a stealth missle ship. This looks like it will take some time but my goal is to do covert ops type stuff and perhpas find a good corp should they need my services.

Played Eve for almost 2 years. Went from miner to PvP'er/Pirate after the first 8 months or so, a lotta fun. I was in several 50v50+ PvP battles between us (curse Allience) and whatever the people from 'Stain' or whatever it was called. 0.0 space isnt for new players, has many of the enterances are blocked by gankers, but once your on your feet with a few friends, it's great. I cancelled my account, but ill see if I can get back online; I left at least 500million isk and two battleships floating around I can dump ya. Ill post back when I find out.

I played this game for about 6 months. I was very impressed at first at the sheer scale of the game, and the amount of people in one server. I believe they just broke the 8 or 9k barrier whilst I was playing. Anyone know the maximum number of people they've ever had playing at once? I bet it's miles more than when I played it.

Although I enjoyed Eve, I soon got bored through the overall lack of content and the time it takes to get anything done. Once you have your battleship, there doesn't seem to much more to work towards.

I didn't get past the tutorial.

I've played EVE for almost three years, on and off. I tend to take large breaks from MMO games though, as it can get very grinding and time-consuming. I've been through FFXI, WoW and a bit of Guild Wars, but EVE is the only one I keep coming back to.

I believe the max number of people logged on exceeded about 20K...if you can believe that. I played for about 6 months, a great game, but the lack of content and tedious "Agent" missions turned me off to the game. Getting ganked at a Warp gate can ruin your day, especially after buying some new items where you have to go through low secruity space to get back to your HQ

One notorious ganker was a guy named Ginger Magician if I remember correctly. I understand in a PvP game anything goes, but this guy would snipe in a Battleship from miles away...and would scramble your warp drive so you were a sitting duck.

Lesson learned: Never negiotiate with space pirates, you'll always get ganked in the end by the four of them that are cloaked. Freakin space pirates...

And now I'm happy playing GalCiv II, far, far, away from Ginger Magician.

I've played EVE for 3 years. When people say it lacks content, they mean it lacks developer created content. There is a lot of content outside of Empire with player formed alliances forming going to war, betraying each other etc. EVE is very much like GalCiv played out in an MMO. It is very tough to get started in EVE and I think a lot of players may not stay long enough to experience some of the real fun.

I played Eve for around 10 months ("Breuer" in the remote chance anyone recognizes the name). While I really liked it at first, as others said it got annoying after a while. I think I would have liked it better as a single player game because:
* this would have allowed some of the more tedius elements (MINING!) to be automated
* I wouldn't need to be playing the game constantly to stay competetive in the market and things like that (or find that my station had been popped while I was sleeping or something)
* the combat probably would have been more enjoyable (for me). All the fights I took part in were either hugely lopsided and over almost immediately or involved huge fleets on different ends of a stargate just waiting for hours and hours for someone to make a move and start the fight. Then when the combat finally did happen the there'd be such a large delay that the fight would pretty much be over by the time the new star system finished loading. And this was running the game on a T1 line.
* no monthly fees

Personally I'd love a game like Eve where you could run a mining or trading business or something like that that didn't have Eve's requirement of being almost a second job. I guess X3 allows something like that, but I've heard quite a few bad things about that game as well.

My 14 day trial is about to end. I have had fun so far but have had no contact with any real people yet. I am almost afraid to since I am such a weak player that I could be destroyed in a heart beat. I think I will pay for one month and see how it goes.
