Can't registar

When I enter the serial number on my jewel case and my collectors edition serial number I keep getting an "invalide serial number" error for both serial numbers. Does anybody know why this is? Also this is a new purchase and not used.

Do both of the serials start with GC2 and have the same number of characters, or are they of differing lengths/formats? There have been reports of some more recent retail copies bought at WalMart containing two Collector's Edition serials instead of one CE serial and one Normal one.

Yes both start with GC2, and both have 26 characters minus the dashes. They both appear to be the same alphnumeric format.

That's a problem. This is the third report I've heard myself, which could mean the entire production run was botched by Take Two, so returning it may just get you another copy the same way.

You should try contacting [email protected] and/or [email protected] to see about trading one of those two serials in for a normal serial.

Hi ACypress, we just learned from Take 2 today that around 1,000 GalCiv II Collector's editions went out without the proper serial # but instead 2 of the Collector's Edition codes.

We are going to try to fix this as soon as possible.  [email protected] has been assigned to convert your CE number to a proper serial # so you can get updates so drop them a note.

Day 4 still no reply to my email requesting help with my serial numbers from [email protected]. Beginning to wonder if I should have the game bronzed and add it to my wall of "Game Buying Follies".

Did you use the same address as your Stardock or Stardock Store account?
Check your spam folder/filter.
You should have gotten an autoreply acknowledging your email.
If you received that, it has specific instructions on how to follow up.

You do realize it's a holiday weekend, right? The office won't be open again until Wednesday. Just be patient a little bit longer, and they'll take care of it as soon as they're back.

Hmmm I wonder if this is why I cant register my serial number. I never thought of looking in my spam folder for a response email. I doubt it will be there becuase I have received look up emails from them since but I'll have a look tonight just in case.

Its obviulsy a serious problem with their protection system IMO that people can buy the game, activate it and then return it for a refund.


Very few stores remain that will take back opened software for a refund, for just that reason.

Trying to be patient. Failing horribly at it.


If its any concilation the second patch doesnt add a massive amount to the game and I cant see any difference at all after adding the tutorial, multimedia and video downloads. The 1.10 patch seems to make the game worse than the v1.00 in that there are bugs in the ship design screen etc. The main things the 1.20 patch adds are things like random selections in start up civ choices, improves the ship design system (or rather makes it work the way it should), and the graphics of the ships generally seem far better after applying the second patch (or is that my imagination).

So you can play the unpatched game with little difference to v1.20 as long as you dont bother with the 1.10 patch which makes it worse.

I take it you cant take the game back to the store? You could always sell it on Ebay but its not much use after its been activated.

I feel for you having been in the same situation myself its really frustrating not to be able to patch it properly. I hope Stardock reply properly and re-register your serial code. Just keep sending them emails!

i'm having the same issues with my game got it at walmart the not a collecctors edition version and its telling me that the emial isnt the one used to register the game it sucks but looks like i'm going to take it back and just get civ 4 this is the 3rd copy that i have tried now so someone here is doing a lot of this mabey time to rethink the copy right protection on the game

Well, my luck remains consistant. Add me to the list of people that got one of the 1000 botched copies. >< I got the CE from Wal-Mart, and got two keys, each starting in "GC2-". Contacted support...hope to have things resolved quickly. I'm seriously looking forward to playing this.

Update: Stardock has updated the Paradox serial trade-in page at this link to include the botched copies that went to WalMart and Fred Meyers recently, among others. So if you got one CE serial abd no game serial or just two CE serials, you *should* be able to get a game serial on that page (if not, then just email [email protected]).
