AI stupid in 1.2, bug found in galaxy creation

Hello

There has been bit discussion why AI seems really stupid sometimes and not expanding at all. Well I just found a major reason for this. Let the picture speak for itself.

I switched many times difficulty level back and forth and all the races reacted to this execpt Thalan, Drath and Iconians. They always stayed at subnormal level. I had to manually select intelligence levels for these races since the difficulty selector did not do its job.

Here is the debug.err

In my case, the selector only affects intelligence level for enabled races. If the race is disabled, the intelligence stays where it was last set. If all races are enabled and both randomize boxes are unchecked, then the difficulty selector adjusts intelligence across the board as expected.

My only complaint is that intelligence levels for enabled races are not remembered. When starting a new game, they always default to the difficulty setting. I normally don't set all the races to the same intelligence and would like the game to remember that.

its not really a bug, its just the way it works, look at what you have selected, that race is not enabled and it only adjusts those that are enabled, but since its a random choice of races, they will all be set to the intelligence level according to the difficulty.

@2 Hmm not really sure about this, since in the game Iconians appeared and while in galaxy creation they were at sub-normal inteligence even if I changed difficulty level. I did however choose Intelligence for Iconians (and other races that did not change their inteligence) manually and that can be seen in Debug.err.

Well I have no idea how this system works really all I can hope is that SD can find the bug that makes AI really dumb (aka not expanding) in some games. All I know is that after I set up all AI Intelligence manually, in my current game all AI expand correctly and play really well.

JJ, it's randomised. Thus it should auto-set all intelligence to the appropriate level, since they're all technically enabled.

Can you set it up so it has the bug, the post the debug? the one you posted looks normal, all civs at the right intelligence. But I remember my first 1.2 game had a 42 in there out of nowhere.

@marcathonas

I messed around with galaxy creation screen and was able to reproduce this bug. Its quite random but sometimes the AI inteligence just wont follow the Difficulty slider. The debug.err seems right because after I took the picture, I manually selected Intelligence for all the races.
