v1.2 Tri-Strontium Armor and Tri-Strontium Armor II Identical

The cost, size and armor value of Tri-Strontium Armor and Tri-Strontium Armor II are identical in v1.2. I believe that this is an error, as it makes Tri-Strontium Armor II pointless.

After discovering this potential error, I decided to check the stats of other defense systems and I ran across this additional possible error:
Droid Sentries II and Droid Sentries III have identical cost, size and point defense values. Again this is in v1.2.

Yeah, I noticed the Tri-Strontium Armor is identical with Tri-Strontium Armor II in my yesterday's game too.

Well spotted, I noted and posted about the Droid Sentries a while ago...

I posted a follow up post as well about them when the 1.2 patch was in beta...

Either I'm unlucky or it is not important enough for a fix. What I suggest is that you edit this file... (mine is found in D:\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Data\English)
GC2Types.xml (making a backup of the original first)
and then edit the values that you wish to change. Check it out afterwards in the Galactopedia to see if those values have been entered correctly, if you wish.

The Droid Sentries entries look like (this is for level 2)....

The forum isn't displaying the above Droid Sentry entry in its correct form - ah well.

I can't remember now but there are some other defence / weapon values that don't seem to be correct but they too can be adjusted in that file.

Good luck

I'm not sure (since most my games never last long enough to get that hight) but I think this has been an issue since the game has been released. And has been reported before. Their are a few other Techs usually the high ones nobody sees much of that are almost the same.

But make sure you check the Size too, if the size is smaller then Tri Sort I then that might be the way they wanted it. If you can fit two Tri Sort II for Only one Tri sort I then that is what they intended.

I like to think of it as if all my little researchers are greedy and wanted to get extra funding for doing nothing, so they just use the research they just discovered to trick me into funding the next research. That way instead of a bug in the game, I can think of it as greedy population and it doesn't seem as bad.

can this be fixed for metaverse games though or are we hooped?

Maybe they have different sizemods. Try looking at them on different hull sizes.

But while we're at it, I'd point out that the second to the last beam weapon technology gives you literally nothing (and the one before it sucks so bad that most people assume it's a mistake, too). I'd like to see Subspace Blasters fixed and Subspace Annihilators added before the defenses get fixed, since the defenses are much cheaper to research.

Unless Stardock fixes it in a patch then it can't be changed for a metaverse game. So, if it is a bug and Stardock fixes it then we are not 'hooped' and if it isn't a bug, and that's how it's supposed to be, then we're 'hooped'.

Oh yeah its messed up. Noticed in last game everything across board for Tri Sortium is same. Pitty.

Railgun Mk V and Railgun Mk VI both have the same tech requirement, and are identical in cost, damage and sizemod.

With the exception of missiles and missile defences ALL of my weapons and armours have only 1 defence and 1 damage, although there is a size difference. This is a real pain; do I need to download the whole thing again or can I get hold of a correct XML file from somewhere?

I also just noticed that in the Beam Technology, that Subspace Blasters is actually Less damage then Plasma III. But Subspace is more expensive. DOH.

That's a known issue. Look at the next tech in line (subspace anihilators)--it doesn't even exist!

Fortunately, Doom Rays make it up by being the second best weapon in the game.

And you guys still continue to play with all these errors? I gave up on GacCivII untill the expansion comes out. Til then, and even at the same time, I play Space Empires IV. It's from 2000 so the graphics are less advanced but the game play and choices are awesome!

Space Empires V will be released towards the end of 2006.

There are many more similar inconsitances.
Especially, with weapons, when sometimes more advanced weapon is just weaker then older one.

And even Bank cost more then Stock Market.

Frankly, I'm suprised that things like this weren't fixed with patches yet.

Most of this can be fixed with simple XML editing, it's only the question of choosing right values, which Stardock guys should look at.
