I can't post to the forums?

I've now lost two longass posts, as the forum software doesn't seem to let me post from Firefox. I'll try in IE, see what happens.

PS, I ranted about the galaxy seed options being obfuscated, non-instictive and broken. And now it's all gone! :(

WTF it worked. So the forum hates Firefox now? GREAT.

dude, just copy the post to a wordpad document and save it.. then post it here on IE after that...

You don't say? Made easier by the fact that this is the only form on the entire internet that loses it's contents when you post, fail, and go back to it? It's easy to copy the post when it's gone, right?

And sorry, it doesn't make it any better that the forum is broken for non-IE users to say 'lolz use this ridiculous workaround'. Sorry, the forums should WORK. They don't. Why the hell not?

I'm using firefox, Works for me.

I prefer the old forum post box though...

Yup, same thing happened to me ealier. Replies work fine, but trying to start a new post from the galciv website triggers an unhandled exception, while doing so on stardocks just gives you a nondescript error message.

I don't even know what that is, yet somehow I'm not surprised.

REPLIES work fine on Firefox. It's the POSTS that are bugged.

Really? I guess so, but I've returned to the forums due to 1.2, and I managed to lose the same thing twice. Of course, it doesn't have it's contents when you press back (all phpBB forums do, so I'm quite used to it).

It seriously challenges my understanding of the IT industry that Stardock can have such a terrible record with their forums. The early traffic problems were nowhere near as bad as 'not compatible with a whole browser'. I'd get sacked if I implemented software like this!

I'd invite you all to particpate in my successful 'quibble' thread: maybe I'm just missing something, but I really would like more consistent and clear seed options. The thread basically contains the issues I've encountered returning to the game after several months.

When you write an essay most people would save the document to not lose it because Word is notorius for crashing. Why would these forums be different? also you are not alone I have lost many of long posts and had to rewrite them. the second time write it in wordpad then paste if nessicary.

What. Word crashes? What does Word have to do with the forum software being pants? Why should I write my posts externally and c&p it into IE (like it's 1992) when no other forum on the internet has this behavour? Unlike others, I'm not interested in tolerating substandard solutions, and I'm curious why these forums are so crap and seeing them improved, instead of 'lol just workaround lol'. And why doesn't the form keep your text again? Once more, other forum software keeps it so you can press back THEN indulge in ridiculous chicanery to get your text posted. THIS software, on the other hand, doesn't, so once you press post it's gone.

There is a plugin for Fire Fox that lets you view pages as it would in IE you can get it on the plugin page on the FF website. I haven't tried it so I can't say if it works or not. I'm using FF and cannot see the threads that are linked to on the galciv2 home page.

Just for the record, I also cannot create new posts with Firefox and using Internet Explorer ist neither an option under Linux (I don't like wine) nor under Windows (I hate backdoors, viruses, ...).

It's no problem to answer to existing posts, but unfortunately quoting doesn't work for me any more.

Maybe it would be a good idea to stop development for this forum-software and put all your efforts into something you really know how to do: GalCiv2!

Don't take me too serious, but please fix the Firefox problems or change to phpBB, it's free (in the sense of free beer and freedom of speach).

You can reply but not post in FF. However there will be a major some major changes to these forums over the next couple of weeks with the layout changing totaly. The new version should be much better and support both browsers.

Keep an eye out for the changes, you should see them easily enough

When I use Opera the smiley faces do not work for me but I have started to use Maxthon again and now all the forum functions are fine and I have the tabbed browsing etc that I enjoyed with FF or Opera...

Frookie, did you try by scripting it. [ ] << add quote in the front brakets then add the quote after the brakets then add another set of brakets and / before typing in quote.
[ quote] this is a test [ /quote] for an example.

There was definately an issue with making new posts with firefox that snuck through. I've uploaded an update that should take care of this. Please have a look, those of you that were unable to post.

Does anyone know the cause of the frequent 'blank page' people get when browsing the forums in Firefox? I'm forced to use IE to get at several threads (even some of the journal threads).

The forums are tested with the latest version of firefox and we do our best to be on top of new releases of firefox as well. I've not yet seen (nor heard a report before today) of blank pages displaying. If you see this again (and you're not using an outdated version of firefox) please take a screenshot which includes the address of the page that generated a blank page.
