Question?

Upgrade Freighters

Does it help (increase speed or Revenue) to upgrade Freighters after they establish a trade route? Any benefit at all?

I find later in the game I have better engines, more room, etc. So do you spend few BCs upgrading freighters?.

Thanks,

nope still speed 1 no matter what, after the route is established

The only benefit to improving freighter speed is actually getting them to the planet you want to trade with faster. Once a trade route is established, the mini-freighter is limited to a speed of 1 for the duration. This is to illustrate the fluctuating 'actual value' of your trade route over time. The farther the mini-freighter from your planet, the more money you rake in each week.

One thing I would like to, and have already asked for is to keep hitpoints and attack on certain hull types used on the frieghters so you can make Combat Traders... like on a huge hull have a ton of weaponry to help protect the routes from warmongerors....

No doesn't help at all.

The speed of the frighter doesn't matter as one in a trade route always have a speed of one.

And the frighter doesn't effect the value of the trade route at all.

There are 3 main ways to protect your routes, and arming them isint one of them.

1: Dont go to war
2: Build a Galactic Privateer (Best option by far)
3: Assign ships to guard duty along the route

well yes but if you are forced into war option 1 is useless and if you are beat to the privateer 2 is useless and 3 is just a pain in the ass to do... so my option would be one I think is worth a try...

1. Make peace.
2. Invade the planet with the Privateer.
3. That one is just a pain, it's true.

Combat freighters would be a rather interesting addition. I saw a screen of a game that had an Altarian freighter with an attack of 19. Throw in some defense and hit points.....

1. LOL (this is agaist all I stand for i.e. my nick it El Conquest) 2. with Mass Driver 3. all to true I think if you want them to guard ships you have to move the fleets yourself.

1. Don't just make peace, make them regret going to war, then offer peace.
2. Mini-Soldiers are the way to go.
3. Yeah, thats a pain.

1 always, I may not even offer peace. the regret is all I come for. 2. Tidal Disrupters I like the most. 3. alway has been

Just to stick with the mood...
1. As a warmonger, yeah... don't make peace... besides, many of the trade routes are just called off when you go to war anyway... wusses...
2. Eh, I'm evil, Mini-Soldiers are just as cheap as anything... but using a more... desctructive method is just fine, just rebuild the Privateer yourself.
3. Yeh, still a pain.

Just build escorts with 1 movement and use the autopilot to send them along the same trade route. They'll follow right along with the ship.

until they reach there destination then you have to send it back the same way. and also trade routes are nonlinear, they are not in a straight line, so that makes it complicated to just say autopilot because autopilot is linear.
