I hope they will at least use the GalCiv2 graphics engine for GalCiv3. This is not a first person shooter where people don't care about in-game depth but just want to overheat their shiny new monster graphics card.

The graphics engine already does a good job, the main map looks sweet and serves well. The battle viewers and planetary screens are seperated, so no problem to rework them and reuse the old engine for the "main game".

So I would like to see them put all their efforts into game mechanics, I want to overheat my shiny new monster processor and tons of RAM, leave me alone with a useless new engine

carriers have been discussed so many times, and never has anyone come up with an acceptable idea that wouldnt make the other ships useless.

Let me put the disk in the drive and patch the game without sending an email to Stardock. Force me to put the disk in the drive to play, I don't care. But give me the option to get away from this, 'I need approval to patch my game' requirement. That's it. I'd pay $30 for that in a second. -M

If i think what your trying to say is that you dont want to be registered to have to update, you must have pirated the software, and are unable to patch.

You dont see anyone else complaning to have to register there copy, infact the second reply to this subject was offtopic

My game pc is not internet connected. And I have objections to copy protection schemes that require you to essentially 'leave your house' to enjoy a product you've paid for. Unlike most people (apparently) I don't mind putting a cd in a drive. I own the cd, it only takes a second to put it in the drive, it helps the game publisher cut down on piracy. No problem. But not being able to patch a purchased game without external approval from a publisher? I find that unreasonable. What next, I can't play a dvd without having my dvd player go to the internet and make sure the disc is legal?

Yes, I know I am a very small minority. Yes, this thread got hi-jacked. Yes, GC2 is a great game. But I've said what I want on the add-on. Nobody has to listen, but I feel better for having said it.

Besides every single game today requires you to DOWNLOAD a patch... wtf do you want... patches my snail mail?

The fact you need a serial to DL patches is what makes people who pirate the game actually pay.

You obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

Of course I don't object to downloading patches. I object to NOT BEING ABLE TO INSTALL THEM WITHOUT AN EMAIL FROM THE PUBLISHER. They don't require just a serial-number. They require your PC to connect via the internet to their server to 'allow' your patch to be installed. If your game computer is not connected to the internet you have to send them an email and they reply.

At what point in time does that policy change? I have ZERO GUARANTEE that this game will continue to be playable in the future. I do not put my 'real' PC on the internet. In case you haven't heard, 'internet security' is right up there with 'military intelligence' and 'jumbo shrimp'.

Don't take my word for it. Unhook your internet connection and try to install the 1.2 patch to a copy of GC2, that you bought legally with honest-to-God U.S. money.

Ok, if you are going to get the expansion pack, then you must purchase it online (it isn't being sold in stores). If you are purchasing it online, you must provide your e-mail address. So, why do you care?

You must give them your address to get it anyway. So, your pointis moot. I understand where you are coming from as far as patches go, but it doesn't matter as far as the add on is concerned.

I had to download 1.2 at my work because my internet connection is so slow at home (dialup). While not connected to the internet (and I know it wasn't connected, it's dialup for crying out loud) I installed the patch no problem.
