Need help post registration

Note: I own the retail regular version of Galciv2.

Earlier today I had yet to register my game with the galciv2 web site. However, I still downloaded the 1.2 patch and updated my game. Afterwards, I had some questions and wanted to post in the forums so I registered the game.

After doing so I was given some new options from the site for downloads, so I downloaded a patch called "Bonus Pack Downloads". On the same page was an option for a download to "Enable Collectors Edition". This began to get confusing, but I downloaded the bonus pack and installed it. After that I was no longer certain (from history.txt) that I was up to date so I downloaded Stardock and installed THAT.

Now I'm really confused. I was able to update in Stardock not only the game, but categories called: Tutorials, Movies, and Multimedia. At the same time, my version was updated to 1.20.035. There's no indication if that is a beta patch or anything like that.

Now I have access within the web site to new downloadable user content (good) but also some confusing areas, such as "Character Creation". There is little indication as to what this is for. This seems to be for Metaverse play, but there's no clear indication. Moreover, it is asking for my serial number AGAIN! Why? The site clearly knows I have a legal copy at this point. And why does it want a custom pic from my computer? Can't I choose a default image?

OK, so I've bitched a lot and I'm giving the overall system a thumbs down (although Galciv2 is great!). My questions are:

a) Is the bonus pack actually available to me even though I don't have the collector's edition?

b) Why doesn't the bonus pack show up in Stardock?

c) If I use Stardock, is my version truly up to date with a "stable" version?

d) Why would I want to "create a character"?

All help welcome!

First, let me say that, if you have Stardock Central, I would only use that to update the game. Any stand alone patches you find on the website are for players that need to update but perhaps their home computer isn't on the internet (or something similar). You may want to start from scratch, since at this point, some necessary files may have accidentally been overwritten with old versions. But, onto your questions....

a) yes

b) the bonus pack was version 1.01, which you automatically get if you use Stardock Central.

c) Yes, unless you download old patches and use them after updating to a newer version on SDCentral.

d) for metaverse games you need a character to show up on the leader board, as well as participate in an empire.

If you use Stardock Central (which you can, even with a boxed version of the game) this all becomes much more streamlined.

Good luck
