BETA 5 on Drengin Game Manager

I don't know yet how to put files onto SD Central so I put Beta 5 on the Drengin Game Manager (i.e. the way you've been getting them).

:sniff!: :sniff!: :sniff!:

The DL from DGM is doing the same thing that the DL from SD Central was. Crashing after selecting AI's.

Please don't tell me I needed to uninstall my DL from SD Central (:(

Ohhh man....... This sucks.... I was so hoping to play tonight. Oh well. I guess I will try uninstalling

I had no problem with the 0.9028 release downloaded from the DGM. It ran without incident.

Initial comments on Beta 5:

1. It seemed like every time I turned around another of the AI races was surrendering to the Drengin.

2. The Alexians, with one colony were managing to outproduce every other race in the game. They build two galactic wonders in a _very_ short time period.

3. I like the new nuances that have been added in the area of diplomacy.

DGM works fine as long as you didn't try to download from SDC earlier.

SDC works now if you do a clean install.

The Alexians were building colony ships every other turn at the beginning of the game. I agree with magus that they are broken. :(

The intelligence of the minor races is quite random.

The alexians, incidentally, don't colonize worlds outside their home sector so I wouldn't worry too much.

The Alexians exhibited several strange attributes:
1. The outproduced every other race in the game even though they only had one colony.

2. Even though there were only two habitable systems in their sector they had six colony ships in orbit around their planet.

3. How were they able to get far enough along on the tech tree, at the speed they were moving, to build some of the Galactic Wonders that they were managing to build?

Minor races start with really really good planets. And planet quality isn't linear in production, it's exponential.

Well, I downloaded it with DGM and played my usual first game in a tiny galaxy. The only flaw in the ointment was that the movies are still clunking (whatever you put in a thread behind them in 4Z is what started that happening). Both the picture and the sound are coming in chunks with pauses between while something else is updating.

The game went well. No crashes or wild happenings of any kind except for those pesky Drengins getting a planet that came up to a 31 with habitat improvement and several other good ones. A long war ensued with me ending up with half the galaxy and them with the other half. Then my influence enhancements and hotter economy slowly began to kick in (I was making about 3 trillion credits a year with no taxes by the time we hit Battleship tech) with my economy maxed right out. Every now and again I could go on a spending spree and complete a whole bunch of stuff so, in the end I just built starbases and maxed out their influence until he gave up!

Kept me up until 6AM when pure fatigue forced me to drop it to the menu and go to bed. Finished it earlier today. There's probably still some other bugs to be found, but the first taste was good!
